Unrelated, why the fuck do people play afk games?
I suppose the appeal is the same as the appeal of grinding, albeit without the grind: just the distilled appeal of increasing numbers and unlocking stuff. It's not for me, and I've barely played any games that even have AFK mechanics, but I think I somewhat understand it.

Of course, there are games like Factorio or whatever that effectively become AFK games (at least to an extent) when you're able to automate everything, but the appeal is in getting to that point.

Nomura just wants to make more Lightning games

Lightning Returns was honestly the only tolerable one gameplay wise. XIII-2 Had actual exploration as a plus.
XIII might as well have been a movie, why the fuck wasn't it a movie? Auto playin' corridor, hand holding ass...

However you can tell the company was veering away from it cause each sequel looks worse graphically than the last.

I love the FF13 trilogy, but I still wouldn't defend the first game too hard. I do like it regardless - It has some thematic weight that justifies its flaws, and I adore the setting - but it's a hard sell when you're talking about a game that takes a couple dozen hours before handing you the controller. I don't begrudge the hate that game gets.

13-2 had some great environments (the city of Academia is beautiful) and much more dicking-around potential right from the beginning (instead of waiting until twenty hours in), but it is so dumb. The game reads, understandably, like a very deliberate attempt to fix the problems people had with the first game, but that only caused its own problems. They replaced the first game's crushingly linear, inescapable-destiny plot direction with almost complete directionlessness. The structure amounts to "reach the goal by opening random doors until you find it". They replaced the first game's ensemble cast of six characters who individually don't get quite enough focus with two characters (and a moogle that turns into a bow that turns into a sword(??)) who individually get almost enough focus but aren't interesting and don't have enough other characters to play off of. The whole game is like this. Everything is wrong in the opposite direction.

Lightning Returns (or, to give it its more sensible title, 13-3) is the only one I unashamedly love, because I think it's a genuinely good game. Unique, too. There's nothing else quite like it, in gameplay or story terms, and I think it's underappreciated. Of course, it's most likely underappreciated because it's the capstone on a trilogy everyone hated, but there we are.

I don't mind the lack of direction in 2 cause like 15 the best part of it is when you're not doing the plot.

13 never actually opens up, it just gives you a big field with more grinding. It's still an empty wasteland devoid of life. It really feels like a square room at the end of a long hallway and it's like... Okay so I get to do the same shit I was already doing that was already boring.
I won every fight with the same strategy too, debuff, buff, build meter, spam Lightnings win button. Terrible fucking combat system compounded with awful unbalanced abilities and tons and tons of hp sponge enemies.

13-3 is actually good yes. Better combat, better exploration, more enjoyable character progression and a lot less of those terribly written uninteresting mongoloids from the rest of the series.

Microsoft to buy Activision Blizzard, monopoly or a push for competition from Sony and Nintendo?
Microsoft seems to have a game plan, this is the second fallen from grace company they bought after Bethesda.

Maybe they think they can run their IPs better. I hope so, I'd love to see Beth and Blizz games not be fucking shit anymore.

Well it knocked down Sony's stock value by 12% the day it was announced so that's a good thing for them/Team Xbox.

The rumor mills are circulating that it might motivate Sony and Nintendo to stop being so lazy and work to become more competitive. I'm hoping by them purchasing Activision that they might be able to turn Call of Duty around, make them less shitty and perhaps have better hacking prevention.

Cross-play has really ruined a lot of FPS because of aimbots and the like for me.

I seriously forgot how much of annoying filter the Guardian Ape in Sekiro was, phase 1 being unnaturally aggressive with like half a dozen different move and attack sets compared to most other Souls style bosses; keep your distance too much, he'll throw shit at you which is next to impossible to dodge, can only block/deflect. If you utilize the Shinobi Firecracker prosthetic then the boss has a cooldown after the first use where it only works every 15-20 seconds. Oh and after the first time, he'll always topple forward. Hug him too much while being aggressive? He'll differ between two different Perilous Attacks. One which will be a massive side sweep and then take off like 2/3rds of your health bar, assuming you have at least 4-5 full prayer breads forth of heal and the second where he'll grab and toss you.

Second phase in comparison is more tedious but less hard.
Have to watch out for his severed head screaming when he holds it up that can instant kill you unless you have Divine Confetti and Purple Mold or Pacifiying Medicine buffs active. Then the constant swipes and slowly building up his posture meter.

The Corrupted Monk fight in comparison was actually MORE annoying even though the Guardian Ape killed me way more times, simply because its next to fucking IMPOSSIBLE to tell when she's going to do a sweep to Vault Dodge it or a thrust to Makiri Counter it. And even perfectly timing your deflections and parries, the jumping overhead attack she does always takes like 1/3rd to 1/2th your entire posture meter.
