Opinions on Tales game incident.

Just to start off, don't worry this thread is temporary I won't leave it tarnishing the place overly long.

To get down to business, there was an incident in the Tales game, I'm sure you know which one I'm referring to. As I am not knowledgeable about this section and we strive to maintain each sections culture I want input on the incident and the opinions of the regulars here. Once the regulars make which way they lean clear, we will discuss with you how we can prevent this in the future and make it easier and clearer to enforce, like with a better written rule mods can point to and do what they need to do backed up by official standards of conduct.

Is it okay to behave this way or is it not? I will try to gather as much input as possible as I want to weed out any potential bias by having a wide pool of thoughts.

By the way it's not true Gad is admitting he doesn't have any reads, he literally is just ghosting every time I ask :hestonpls

I think needle is an inevitable part of mafia games, so im loathe to high horse anyone given ive had my fair share too.

That said the remarks in this particular situation and subsequent refusal to acknowledge that they are really not kosher (Its one thing to say someone is dumb, not nice but happens all the time in life, another to label them a child predator) are disappointing.

Im not of the opinion that more legislation is the answer however. Generally speaking, the community self polices the really egregious stuff.

This is specifically referring to Fang calling me a ****phile over this game and ones prior. I raised it with the admins and it was decided that a community-wide poll was necessary as to whether that sort of behaviour is acceptable within games. Nep has said he would add the required context in the OP.

Very well, do you think there is something you can do to calm this as it occurs in future? Assuming the consensus ends up that this is crossing the line?

So to be clear the question this thread aims to propose is "are comments like this something that the Mafia community accepts as part of the game, or is it something that, going forward, will be against the code of conduct here".

Its difficult because we have to balance the need for numbers with maintaining a standard of conduct. Trouble is because its such an emotional game, things can escalate really quickly, and measures you take against an individual (timing them out or removing them from the game) have wider consequences too.

This particular case is different because i think these remarks were a calculated attempt to insult, as there is previous

I understand, but if it even is possible, if anyone can figure it out, it's this particular group of mods.
Regardless for now I just want as many regular ranked players to chime in. Then at least for now we can say, this is not tolerable behavior even during games.
 
I think calling someone a peadophile in a serious manner is too far

It’s complicated because the word nonce often gets thrown around as a joke lmao, but idk if we want to stamp that out, or use common sense about whether something is a joke between both parties. It’s probably easier to make a rule that’s easy to follow, but as gram said it’s a tough balancing act and we don’t want to be banning people often or at all if we can help it

As he also said, we tend to be fairly good at self policing the section, IE when people go too far there is usually a talking to or a wider discussion and usually the people will acknowledge they went too far and apologise. If someone continually went too far and refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing etc then we may take it further. That said, I also understand that it’s really ugly for an outsider to be reading some of these posts

There’s no really clean answer to it unfortunately. We’ve all kind of made a collective decision that we will and are trying to be better, but this game is such that shit just happens and it’s not rare lol
 
The lack of apology from Fang's part is concerning. Yeah, I'm guilty of being a twat in the past (and likely in the future) but I'll almost always apologise once cooler heads have prevailed. Fang displays a contempt for a lot of players and from my pov hides behind his staff shield as a manner of teflon thinking he is above any sort of sanction and/or punishment. In a nutshell you can get pissed off with someone and call them a ****, asshole etc, but there's lines that shouldn't be crossed, namely continued calling of a paedophile, that should be eliminated.

Since you asked for my unsolicited opinion, I think we need to ban Lethal, and start a go fund me to get Aurelian laid so he stops being an incel goober
