Requesting account deletion

NotOmnipotent

Illustrious
Is this the right place? If not, I apologize.

Hello, my name is NotOmnipotent and I'd like to request that my account be deleted. There are three reasons why I am leaving.

Disagreement with OBD

I was most active in the OBD sub-forum, arguing about cosmology tiering and omnipotence. I made a thread arguing for omnipotence to be accepted on the OBD. In this, I made three mistakes.

1. I made a bad argument
2. I defended my argument poorly
3 (most important). I tried to get you to change.

3 is the most important because you guys have your own way of doing things. You don't want someone to tell you you're wrong and to powerscale another way. Because that just makes the person who's doing it seem like a massive dick. This leads me to my second reason.

Disagreement with powerscaling

The number of things I disagree on with most powerscalers is a lot. I disagree that calculations can be used, I disagree that illogic can be used, and so on and so forth. I revised my omnipotence arguments when I lost a while back, and that set me on a path of endlessly arguing and revising my arguments in an attempt to be The Most Correct Powerscaler.

However, there's just one problem. I didn't find it fun. It was exhausting. Powerscaling is meant to be fun. I could go on about how fictional characters don't have power levels as intrinsic features of their ontology, but I won't, simply because that's unneeded. Instead, I'll say this: I realized this hobby stopped being a hobby for me and started being an ego-stroking activity to reassure myself that I am correct. I realized how toxic that was and decided to leave, deleting all of my powerscaling accounts, all of my powerscaling documents, and more.

Culture of the OBD

I don't like the culture in the OBD and would like to leave.

Please have a good day

I liked having you around, you were probably the only person other than me invested in trying to workshop a better system, but I get it and wish you well. No reason to spend your time posting in a place you don't feel comfortable

It is a very mature thing to be so open and honest, not with us, but with yourself.

In some time you will look back and realise how much you have grown realising it. I wish you well.

Hey, I just saw your thread. Sorry for the late response, life has been a bit hectic lately... :dead

I get where you are coming from, and I really appreciate you being upfront about why you are leaving. It is clear you have put a lot of thought into this, so I just want to address a few things.

First off, about your disagreements with the OBD and powerscaling, I think that is part of what makes the community interesting. Different perspectives can add a lot to discussions, even if they are not always aligned with the majority view. You mentioned feeling like you were trying to force change, but I do not think sharing new ideas or challenging the status quo is a bad thing. Honestly, those types of discussions can make the community stronger if handled the right way.

As for powerscaling feeling like more of a chore than fun, I completely get that. Hobbies should be enjoyable, not draining. Maybe taking a step back from the more heated debates could help. There is no rule that says you have to go all-in on every argument or that you cannot just hang out and enjoy the lighter side of the forum. A lot of people here would probably appreciate your input without expecting you to carry the weight of proving you are the most correct.

Lastly, about the culture, I will be the first to admit the OBD is not perfect. It is a close-knit group, but I genuinely believe the community is capable of evolving. If there is anything specific you think could improve things, I would be happy to hear it and try to help make it happen.

At the end of the day, we would hate to see you go, and I think you have got a lot to offer. But if you do decide to leave, just know the door is always open if you ever want to come back. That is also part of the reason that we do not offer account deletions anymore. We have had people who later wanted us to "undelete" their accounts, but once the deletion action is done, the road to account recovery is long and draining.
