Weebs of the forum (so basically all of you) I need help with my imminent damnation

I have "decided" to start watching anime proper and since you're like the family I never had or wanted I'll need to ask for your help and recommendations.

Certain rules I need to establish before we begin due to what I saw on the "official" best anime lists on the net and quite frankly I'm starting to see why any divine interventions have become almost nonexistent in this day and age :dw

1. Not too cutsey for the sake of being cute, a good exception would be anything that balances the weird cute kawaii sickness with some more serious or even disturbing undertones (e.g. Made in Abyss)
2. No kinky sex bullshit, there's porn for that, unless it again enhances the other core elements of the show (e.g. Berserk, Hellsing etc.)
2.5. I see a drawn child holding a popsicle while acting all "cutsey" in any anime you guys recommend and I personally will scrape away every memory I had of you in my soul and mind
3. No politics/romance/slice of life bullshit, the more outlandish or fictional the better, realistic with a dash of the unknown/unlikely is ok though
4. It has to have a conclusion, no half finished stuff
5. Preferably seinen or anything more "serious" or *sigh* "edgy" and cool... Look at rule 1 for further guidance on this
6. Cyberpunk, biopunk, horror, science (biology especially) or insect themes are a huge bonus but NOT necessary at all
7. Popularity or any scores/rating mean nothing to me, gimme whatever you feel or think I'd like

And that's that! Make me love you even more my fellow leaderless drones 🪲

Baka

Byronic Hero
GFX Designer
stuff i've watched that you'd probably like:

psycho pass
fma brotherhood
baccano

stuff i've watched that you might like:

steins gate
eve no jikan
houseki no kuni

stuff i haven't watched that you'd probably like:

parasyte
serial experiments lain
ghost in the shell

stuff i'm recommending anyway because it's 10/10 GOATBOAT:

ping pong the animation

idk how many of these you've watched/how much of a weeb you are tho

anime sucks full stop

Eh the vast majority is simply not my thing... I guess I'm too "westernised" but dammit most anime and manga is just so hard to take seriously. However some are just sublime! Ghost in The Shell (1995) is an example of an anime movie that absolutely destroyed me as a kid in the best way possible...

stuff i've watched that you'd probably like:

psycho pass
I've seen this mentioned around a lot, I'll check it!

fma brotherhood
Saw it but gonna do again now anyway.

This one looks good too.

stuff i've watched that you might like:

steins gate
eve no jikan
houseki no kuni
Never heard any of these but I'll check them as well.

stuff i haven't watched that you'd probably like:

parasyte
Read the manga, loved it A LOT, I doubt I'd watch the anime in that case though :skully

serial experiments lain
ghost in the shell
:maybe

:maybe

ping pong the animation
Now this is the good stuff! clark

idk how many of these you've watched/how much of a weeb you are tho
I was drawn to japanese media as a kid because of their love for insects/biology and sci-fi/cyberpunk and to be honest most anime still doesn't click with me but when it does... oh boy.

It's been quite a while since I watched anything other than slice of life, humor and romance anime, but based on my memory and your op you might like some of these.

A.I.C.O. Incarnation

Akame ga kill

B The Beginning

Boku dake ga Inai Machi

Code Geass

Sword Art Online - I only recommend the first half of season 1, which is (almost, like 99%) a fully fledged story on it's own. Everything that I've seen from it after that point was crap.

Wasn't Code Geass like HUGE at some point?

Wait... WAIT WHY DO I HAVE SOME VAGUE MEMORIES OF THIS... Wtf so weird...

I am DEFINITELY checking this out first thing tomorrow! But now sleep! :blobnotgood

maybe you blocked it out. but yeah check it out
Ok so I am watching this one and FMAB for now.

SEL, Ergo Proxy, GitS I need more like these! Old school gritty, gloomy, stylish and sci-fi packed.

I also love the fact I got back into anime through Blue Gender and then JoJo which btw I just finished the Egypt ark and laugh all you want but I actually felt emotional near the end... Good to know I can still feel like that after my view on most aspects of life got a bit more cynical and I guess greyer than I wanted.

Watch Monster.
Read the manga therefore, no :maybe

I almost watched this a decade ago thinking it had bugs in it cause of the name :skully

A man of culture I see.
I'm so cultural I wanna start a cult.

The music and animation in parasyte is really good.

:x
I was planing on revisiting the manga but this might be the better option :hm
