Depends on how many layers of WIFOM you want to get into. It can invite it, or it could look like he wants to invite it - as you said, it stands to potentially benefit Poyser which by itself can do the opposite if people read into it a certain way. That is, after all, the defining characteristic of WIFOM - it's circular.
