Well you wouldn't be alone in not thinking it's the absolute best season but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the worst, it's tied for third for me along with Frontier and behind Tamers and Savers. Adventure 01 does still have some of the best characters and villains in the series, even if it does have some pacing issues (especially early on and towards the end).
02 by any standards but Digimons would be a decent series in and of itself but looks a lot worse when measured against its peers and especially its predecessor. Even Tri by most accounts isn't terrible (again unless you're comparing it to other Digimon series).
The recent movies are where it got retarded with the retcons that seemed out to actively destroy the lore of the series, in the hope of adding "maturity" or "realism" or something that was already there and done better in the actual seasons.
Nah more like the retcons where the partner Digimon were enslaved via the digivice or where a wish granting Digimon was responsible for everything. Or how, once they reach a certain age, the Digimon go away and they lose all memory, shit like that.
Shit that actively damage the story of the Adventure setting as a whole.
So basically what you're saying is that you feel like all these reboots are pulling a "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" on Digimon Adventure 01 and 02's original story and ending.
