Avatar RPG Travel Guide
Explore the Four Nations—Fairly, Logically, and Lore-Friendly
1. How Travel Works
Travel is done by moving from region to region, using landmarks such as cities, temples, villages, forests, or mountain passes.- You must pass through each landmark between where you are and where you’re going.
- Post your current location and link to your last travel post to show your route.
- You must wait 45 minutes in real time before reaching the next landmark. This represents realistic travel time (on foot, by animal, or ship).
- If you don't post in the next landmark within 8 hours, you're assumed to still be in your previous location and can be intercepted.
2. Methods of Travel
In the Avatar World, people travel in many ways. Your method can affect how long it takes. On Foot or Horse (Default)
- Standard travel speed between landmarks (45 minutes minimum).
- Terrain (mountains, swamps, desert) may affect your pace or how a fight plays out.
On Animal Mounts (e.g., Sky Bison, Ostrich Horse, Eel Hound)
- Mounts may reduce travel time (some by 25–50%).
- Must be listed in your biography or earned in RP.
- Large animals like Sky Bison can’t access narrow paths or caves.
- Mounts will have travel reduction time written in their details.
By Ship or Raft
- Used to cross lakes, rivers, and seas.
- You can’t skip ocean landmarks unless using a seafaring vessel.
- Ships can be attacked during travel across large waters.
3. Special Bending & Spiritual Travel
Bender Shortcuts
Some benders can use special techniques to travel faster:- Air Nomads with gliders can cross mountains or forests quickly. (Specified in Gliders).
- Waterbenders can ice-raft across lakes. (Specified in ability details)
- Earthbenders with seismic sense may tunnel or ride rock columns. (Specified in ability details).
- These abilities must be realistically described and don’t skip landmarks unless clearly logical (e.g., airbending off a cliff doesn’t get you across an ocean).
Spiritual Travel (Advanced Roleplay)
- Requires spiritual training or specific bending lore.
- Only works to reach Spirit World locations or previously visited sacred sites.
- Must be earned via events or deep RP, not instant teleportation.
4. Automated Travel (For Busy Players)
If you're traveling across 3 or more landmarks and can't post every stop:- Make one post detailing your full path and times of arrival per location (in your timezone).
- Travel time is 1 hour per landmark, not 45 minutes.
- You cannot cross oceans this way.
- You can be intercepted mid-journey if someone is present when your time arrives.
5. Sacred Site Portals (Lore-Based Teleports)
A network of ancient portals connects certain spiritual locations (like the Spirit Oasis, the Foggy Swamp, or Northern Air Temple).- Only benders with deep spiritual connection (like the Avatar, monks, or trained shamans) may use these.
- Travel is instant, but may be limited to once per 24 hours.
- Not all sacred sites have portals—this must be pre-approved or discovered in RP.
6. Time, Turns, and Bending Effects
- Every travel post = 1 turn.
- If you're using an active ability (like Avatar State or a buff), it still consumes duration while you travel.
- Chakra-equivalent mechanics (like Stamina, Focus, or Spiritual Energy) are slowly used or regenerated while traveling.
- Energy-gathering actions (e.g., meditation, spiritual alignment) follow the 45-minute rule, even if your travel speed is faster.
