like he just puts himself in jail for a longer period of time by emcrimating himself when before then he was trying to get a deal for less time and even tried running from the cops when they were called on him

entire point was that he took responsibility for every horrible thing he had done or allowed to happen, he also did what he could to shield Kim from any blowback, and (the main thing) he got to see Kim again. Once he heard she had confessed to everything re: Howard it motivated him to also take responsibility.
