HOW TO RP: Business System
The Business System in the Avatar RPG provides you with the opportunity to establish and run your own Inns, Schools, or Shops, seamlessly integrating your ventures into the game world. These businesses are not just passive economic endeavors; they are dynamic hubs for storytelling, character development, and player interaction. Each type of business offers unique mechanics, challenges, and rewards, allowing players to explore new facets of their characters and the Avatar universe. (Note: There may exist multiple shops/Inns in the same Landmark).

This system encourages you to actively engage with others, fostering collaboration and competition while creating new opportunities for world-building. Whether you are providing travelers with a place to rest, transporting goods across treacherous lands, or crafting and selling specialized items, their businesses will shape the local economy and contribute to the unfolding narrative.

HOW TO RP: The Inn

Inns: The Heart of Hospitality and Gathering

Inns are central to the world, serving as rest stops for travelers, hubs for adventurers, and gathering places for stories and intrigue. People who choose to run an inn can create a vital focal point for their community while earning and contributing to the social fabric of the RPG.

Establishing an Inn

To start an inn, players must meet certain in-game requirements:
  • Location: Choose a strategic spot, such as near a busy trade route, in a bustling city, or at the crossroads of adventure.
  • Investment: Gather resources to construct or acquire the inn. This may involve quests, partnerships, or leveraging personal wealth. (Requirement: Complete 3 B - Rank Quests revolving around the establishment of the Inn)
  • Theme and Appeal: Decide on the inn’s unique flavor, from a cozy village tavern to a grand, exotic establishment that caters to nobles and travelers alike.

Core Mechanics of Running an Inn
Every Inn houses a multitude of functions for the RPG and for the people in it. These include Resting, Quests, Event Hosting. When establishing ones Inn, it is important to distinguish the type of Inn that you will be running, the accomodations, different hospitality services, such as entertainment, meals, and more. In addition to this, Inns are natural places to host gatherings, post quests, bounties, or for adventurers to exchange tales.

Note: Within the Inns, combat is forbidden.

Accomodation & Hospitality Services
Every Inn has a unique aesthetic and service, however every Inn provides its patrons with the following benefits.

  • While staying at an Inn, you recover Stamina and Hit Points at an accelerated rate (50% faster).
  • You may attain certain "buffs" if granted by the Innkeeper. (Example: If you complete a quest for them, you may attain a temporary boon such as a meal that grants temporarily increased Stamina by +50 for a week).

Quests
As an Innkeeper, you can act as a quest broker, connecting clients with suitable adventurers and you can provide people with quests of your own. These quests can be of various natures such as but not limited to; Guarding a caravan, retrieving objects, items or remedies, hunt a wild beast, spy on a rival etc.
Note: Quests are limited and monitored by Moderators of the Forum.

Quest Template & Example:
Quest: Hunt a Wild Beast
Difficulty: B-rank
Information: A wild beast are roaming the nearby forests, and have been killing the wild fauna and attacking nearby farms, I need you to hunt the beast and bring it to me as proof.
Reward: Meal of Staming: Increases Total Stamina by 50 for a week.

Events
Through special permission from the Avatar World Admin/Moderators, an Innkeeper can attain the rights to host special events such as tournaments, festivals, or random encounters such as bandit raids, mysterious visitors, or unexpected events.

When hosting an event, the Innkeeper will work in tandem with a Moderator whom will oversee the event after proper application has been sent to said Moderator. These applications will follow the template seen below, and depending on the event applied for, different rewards may be provided by the Moderator and Innkeepers discretion.

Shops: The Backbone of Commerce and Craftsmanship

Shops in the Avatar RP system serve as hubs for commerce, where players can buy, sell, craft, and trade goods. Whether you're looking to expand your business, offer specialized services, or interact with the world through economic means, shops are crucial to the thriving economy and offer a significant role for characters to engage in the community. Shops can specialize in a wide range of goods, including but not limited to: herbs, weapons, armor, artifacts, crafting supplies, potions, or even more unique services like bending-related items. (Note: you may only trade items attained in the Avatar World from Quests, fights, events, Shops, Innkeepers, etc., with Established Shops.)

Establishing a Shop

To run a successful shop, players must go through a series of requirements and steps:
  1. Initial Setup:
    • Location: Choose a location that aligns with your shop’s focus. For example, a smithy might work best in a busy town known for metalwork, while a herbalist’s shop might be better placed near a forest or wilderness.
    • Shop Permit: Obtain a Shop Permit, which can be acquired by completing at least 3 B-Rank quests related to trade, gathering materials, or seeking out a mentor in your field.
  2. Specialization:
    • Choose the type of shop you want to run, such as:
      • Weaponsmith (Weapons and Armor)
      • Herbalist (Potions and Remedies)
      • Crafting Shop (Woodworking, Tailoring, and Miscellaneous items)
      • Curio Shop (Rare artifacts, maps, or mystical items)
      • General Goods (Consumables, everyday items, and tools)
  3. Business Management:
    • Assign roles such as Craftsperson, Merchant, or Apprentices to your team if running a larger shop. You can also recruit NPCs or hire other players to help maintain the shop’s operations.

Core Mechanics of Running a Shop

1. Inventory and Stocking:

  • Purchasing and Crafting:
    • As the shop owner, you can create or purchase items to sell. Some items might need raw materials that require quests to obtain (e.g., a special ore for crafting).
    • Crafting or customizing items adds another layer of complexity. For example, a weaponsmith can forge new types of blades, armor, or accessories, while a herbalist can create potions, salves, or balms.
  • Shop Inventory: Maintain a dynamic inventory based on stock availability. Items can be customized based on resources, rarity, or uniqueness.
  • Pricing: Set prices for your goods. Prices may vary based on item rarity, demand, or the character’s reputation as a craftsman. (Prices may be trades between the Shop owner and the interested party, these trades may be items, quests, objects etc.).

2. Customer Interaction:

  • Selling and Buying: Players can come to your shop to buy what you have on offer. You can negotiate with them for items or special deals.
  • Custom Orders: If you specialize in crafting, customers may place custom orders for special items, such as unique weapons or rare potions. These orders will require time to complete.
  • Bartering: Instead of a fixed price, players can trade or barter with you for items, crafting services, or other valuable assets. You can establish your own barter system.

4. Shop Maintenance and Expansion:

  • Maintenance: As a shopkeeper, you’ll need to ensure the shop is well-maintained, with a steady supply of goods and a clean, welcoming atmosphere.
  • Shop Upgrades: Expand your shop’s inventory, size, or specialty as your business grows. Adding storage spaces, showcase areas, or workshops can improve your shop’s efficiency and attract more customers. (For every 10 items/services sold, your shop increases its storage and efficiency by reducing production time by 1 day).

(Note: To establish a Martial Arts School one must have Mastered a specific art of combat, such as Kung Fu, Karate, or have developed their own style aka. submitted their own Fighting Style).

  • Location: The school can be established in a quiet, disciplined environment (like a mountain, a city’s training district, or a secluded dojo) or it can be mobile, traveling from town to town to spread martial knowledge.
  • Requirements: Similar to other systems, players need to gather resources and complete specific in-game quests (such as defeating a master in combat, finding ancient scrolls of martial techniques, or recruiting instructors). They may need to develop their own martial style or adopt an existing one. (Quest is provided by a Moderator upon application to create your own school).
