Anyone into this series? This one is a particularly decent jumping on point. This is a turn based/action hybrid JRPG, mostly turn based so don't expect deep action combat.
My thoughts so far having reached Chapter 3 in the story is that it's left some of the trope-y parts of the previous arc, the steel arc, behind.
This is a long series of interconnected games but this one stands alone better than most.
The world building is some of the most detailed I've seen in these types of games. The story in this one has a darker tone which is welcome after the previous arcs very shounen anime feel. The earlier arcs, Crobssbell and sky also were a bit darker than steel but they still pulled punches a lot.
It's my personal favorite JRPG series now, and my preferred replacement for the mess I think FF has become over the years. I think it may even be better than FF ever got in some of its entries.
