Critics mean jack shit. Gotta wait and see. I hope they don't go the Bebop road. That said, Oda is heavily involved unlike the Bebop creator.
I'm almost 100 percent sure it's a loyal adaptation with 100 percent heart poured into it, but OP, visually, is just not cut out for it which is my main issue.
 
Oda personally wanted this series.

It's not going to be a faithful adaption. Thats impossible to do.

Question is if it's BS or not. I agree it'd be silly for Luffy to look so stressed over someone he can manhandle in base.
