I saw that people seem to dislike Index on this site and that apparently SB is actually wanking it, so I'm making this thread to figure out why.

If by hated you mean mocked yeah

But it has nothing to do with the series power level so making a vs thread to figure out why makes no sense lol

The series is just bad
I was going off the humiliating arguments. Which said Index was wanked and stuff.

I just wanna know why Toaru's hated here.

There's no "hate", hate is a really strong word as to be frank, I did like it in the past... and probably still would.
Now mocking? That absolutely fits because the real issue people have with To Aru is that:

1. When you are like me and you go to Spacebattles and everyone tells you that Fate or Star Wars or DBZ is hard to understand but To Aru isn't... only to see snippets from the LN and it's so much nonsense in it that you wonder how anyone can use any feats from the series in it? Yeah, it tends to get mocked.

2. When the characters are GROSSLY mislabeled as far more overpowered than they actually are and tend to be ignored on how their powers actually work(The big thing is that people point out To Aru characters are only weak against Reality Warping... when that's false and they fall under the similar situation as Satoru Gojou: i.e. Their weaknesses are far more apparent and is more easily countered even by simple universes that have mechanics that can stop magic or otherwise from working).

3. It's consistently the same characters used over and over and over and over again. It's like using only Lostbelt Zeus, God Arjuna, Lostbelt Morgan or ORT instead of say anyone else in Fate. Most of us only see Accelerator, Fiamma, Othinus with Gungir(not even her without that where she only has 50/50 and that can be influenced for or against her), Corozaon or that new Alice chick.
It's very rarely anyone else that isn't basically some extremely overpowered mess that people don't want to talk about(Like that super Amazo-type chick that I forgot the name of.

Like I'll be real here: Reality Marbles alone would shut down Accelerator as it would basically make the very nature of how his ability works completely worthless. Because that IS Reality Warping at it's core.
Arcuied and the other True Ancestors are capable of doing the same thing, hell Yu Mei-ren is capable of a bootleg version of it. Even Dead Apostle Ancestors can do it with their Idea Blood. Even the TYPEs can do it and ORT was literally beating the Earth's Re-assertion of it while SLEEPING. And yeah, the Reality Assertion by the Earth makes their variant of Reality Warping STRONGER because of that constant Assertion that most other Reality Warpers don't deal with.

So if you want to be frank, you have a laundry list of characters that can canonically kill Accelerator, that or shred concepts which will make the list to:

Any Reality Marble User
All Dead Apostle Ancestors
All True Ancestors
Arcuied
All the TYPEs
Gilgamesh
Altera
Most likely Artoria in all of her forms
Potentially Morgan due to being able to literally fuck with the fabric of things due to being an Avalon of the Fae
Similar with Caster Artoria
Oberon Vortigern
Cernnuous and the other Gods(due to Authorities being absolutes)
and a few more I didn't name.

I was going off the humiliating arguments. Which said Index was wanked and stuff.

We make fun of it in the same fashion we make fun of how SB loves to go nuts with RWBY feats for some insane reason and outside of Sufficient Velocity, the ONLY people who try and take RWBY seriously as a VS. series(When even Critics and a good number of fanboys admit how terrible the scaling is).
The same reason we go after Worm or Multiversal Gilgamesh or ANYTHING to do with Seven Deadly Sins, etc.

There's no hate, it's just major mocking of people who go extremely overboard in protecting their series to basically make up shit on the fly and people just accept it rather than do any true research of their own.

Reality Marbles alone would shut down Accelerator as it would basically make the very nature of how his ability works completely worthless. Because that IS Reality Warping at it's core.
Wait I don't really get this.

Like doesn't Accelerator have the ability to reprogram his power to work against other shit? Like wasn't that how he blocked the universe busting sword thing?

Yeah I regret asking this shit is even worse than I remember

While Coronzon was temporarily forced out of her physical vessel and reduced to an exposed soul, it was not able to overcome Imagine Breaker and was negated just like most other spells.[44][41] Lilith Crowley was able to intercept and redirect the avatar-supported spell through the use of a miracle,[33] while Accelerator was able to redirect the flow of power with assistance from Qliphah Puzzle 545.

Sounds like they were actually weakened and he required assistance, and that's not even getting into the nonsense that is Odin needing gungnir to not fail her not reality warping because she apparently doesn't destroy anything FFS I hate Kamachi's prose with a passion

Tbf, a lot of those threads are by people which are not fans of Index as well and those also tend to be the ones that get traffic. You just won't find much of an audience for Maidono Hoshimi or Carrier & Decomposer, especially since the fact that many Index people are glass canons or another means you can't just easily throw them against the HST and stuff.

People seem to want to debate the edge albino kid instead.

Like I'll be real here: Reality Marbles alone would shut down Accelerator as it would basically make the very nature of how his ability works completely worthless. Because that IS Reality Warping at it's core.

Not sure what you mean with they make his ability worthless. Yes, esper abilities at their core they are something like reality warping. But how does that make his ability worthless?

Yeah I regret asking this shit is even worse than I remember

Yeah... don't make conclusions on your own if you haven't read the book, as you are misinterpreting stuff there. The Coronzon getting weakened by being reduced to a soul happened later. (NT 22 Chapter 4 Part 16 to be specific) Well, actually it's debatable whether it is weakening. Being a physical existence more has perks for Coronzon than that it increases her power IMO.
Anyways, Accelerator reflected the Flaming Sword in NT 22 Chapter 1 Part 4. For reference, this is the incantation of the flaming sword, which is Coronzons signature technique:
“Every number is the same. My right hand contains Nuit of Resurrection. Watch as the possibilities expand and surpass the bounds of the finite. My left hand contains Hadit of Vengeance. The smallest point gathers and concentrates all forces to create a single meaning. Thus, an attack shall be released from the infinite acceleration of the Circle of Ra-Hoor-Khuit and shall appear on the surface layer of this world.”

Now, did Kamijou Touma realize that was the pose for wielding a rapier?

And before even that, what was the fate of one who had thoughtlessly touched an untouchable taboo?

Lola Stuart, Great Demon Coronzon, moved her lips in a bewitching and mechanical way.

No.

A different face clearly appeared from her long, long blonde hair.

“Magick: Flaming_Sword. Manifest thyself through descent of the Sephirah and bathe him in thy power.”

It happened suddenly.

“No!”

Kamijou Touma must not have had much of a choice.

But the small god managed to direct a shout of despair toward the swiftly moving boy.

“Wait, human!! The world’s reference point is not enough to suppress this attack!!”

Yes.

Magic God Othinus had once obliterated Kamijou Touma’s body with the brute force of her crossbow.

A moment later, everyone witnessed that instant.

With a dull sound, that right hand and Kamijou Touma himself were utterly destroyed.
And here is Accelerator reflection it:
It happened at Edinburgh Castle, the occult center of Scotland.

Did that make it appropriate? Or did it make it disrespectful?

Whatever the case, a humanoid white shadow alighted there.

This was Academy City’s #1.

And by his side was a demon girl who looked like the fusion of a lovely maiden, a venomous jellyfish, and soft wings.

Those monsters looked entirely out of place on a clear winter morning.

A single flying kick had taken control of the entire situation.

“…Yo.”

He spoke.

He spoke to the woman in a beige habit who had crashed through more than one stone wall after flying back from his meteor-like attack.

And in response, her sinister true face appeared using the absurdly long blonde hair as a screen.

“My right hand contains Nuit of Resurrection and my left hand contains Hadit of Vengeance. Combined, they form the Circle of Ra-Hoor-Khuit, which…”

“Yo.”

The special attack released by Great Demon Coronzon clashed head-on with the Level 5 who could manipulate any and all vectors.

“Yo!”

A mass of invisible power scattered in every direction.

No.

It was torn apart by a human will.

The woman with absurdly long blonde hair very clearly and undeniably clicked her tongue.

“Aethyr Avatar – 1: LIL, 9: ZIP, 20: KHR!!”

“Yo!! Yo!! Yoooo!!!!!”

The massive amount of blonde hair split into three groups and they complexly wove themselves together to form three winged angels.

Accelerator had no idea what power was contained in there.

He raised his fingers like claws and swung them wildly around to tear the false angels to shreds. If he had viewed magic as a different form of esper powers, he never could have accomplished this. If he had made that mistaken detour in his understanding, he would have failed to comprehend its true essence, failed to grasp the vectors, and been injured.

But he no longer viewed it that way.

That white shadow was enough of a monster already, but he now had a translucent demon – a blatant product of the occult – by his side.

“You partially installed the power’s directionality into the calculations for your power? Tch. That is the number 11 which exists in the Qliphoth yet is not an imaginary number. Is that the guide to the upside-down tree I built? This awkward product of science has insolently reached the level of Probationer!?”
As for how strong the attack is:
“Every number is the same. My right hand contains Nuit of Resurrection. Watch as the possibilities expand and surpass the bounds of the finite. My left hand contains Hadit of Vengeance. The smallest point gathers and concentrates all forces to create a single meaning. Thus, an attack shall be released from the infinite acceleration of the Circle of Ra-Hoor-Khuit and shall appear on the surface layer of this world.”

This was the ultimate attack that rivaled a Magic God’s lance and had utterly destroyed a certain boy despite the presence of Imagine Breaker.
That lance being Othinus' Gungnir. I don't think I have to go over why Gungnir is universe level.

Wait I don't really get this.

Like doesn't Accelerator have the ability to reprogram his power to work against other shit? Like wasn't that how he blocked the universe busting sword thing?

I'm very much certain that's due to how the properties of his ability worked in the prospect of To Aru's Universe, that wouldn't account for legit denying the ability entirely to keep asserting that your Reality is the true one like how Reality Marbles work or Nasuverse Earth's re-assertion of it's Reality.

Yeah I regret asking this shit is even worse than I remember

Sounds like they were actually weakened and he required assistance, and that's not even getting into the nonsense that is Odin needing gungnir to not fail her not reality warping because she apparently doesn't destroy anything FFS I hate Kamachi's prose with a passion

Yeah, there was alot of pieces missing there and from the stuff I got from others, it's nowhere near as clear cut as people like to say...
But that's the problem of a series that is really popular from the Manga and Anime, not the LN.

Again, I actually put that up as a reason that we and others like to mock how To Aru is used just like ComicVine and Multiversal Gilgamesh and SB with RWBY and Seven Deadly Sins in the past with Spacebattles. If it was far less weighted out and actually included some of the more regular characters, you would have people primarily not want to hate debating the series.

Not sure what you mean with they make his ability worthless. Yes, esper abilities at their core they are something like reality warping. But how does that make his ability worthless?

Because of the nature that there are plenty of Universes that have characters that can explicitly shut off the ability or Espers only alter Reality with the help of their knowledge of Mathematics to help dictate how that works... but what if the Reality basically denies even that? Then there abilities shouldn't be able to manifest at all or straight up be denied.

EDIT: Let me put this as example of how Reality Marbles work alongside the mechanics of the Nasuverse:
Reality Marbles overlay the user's Soul into the World and basically becomes their Pocket Dimension/World:
Koyū Kekkai(Riariti Māburu)?, Innate Bounded Field) is one that centres around the materialization and projection of one's inner world onto reality following the Thaumaturgical Theory World Egg (世界卵, Sekai Tamago?).[1] Originally, it was an ability specifically had by daemons as their Alien Common Sense (異界常識, Ikai Jōshiki?), but has since come to include the unique Bounded Fields possessed by many people,[2][3] such as the Twenty-seven Dead Apostle Ancestors and the greatest of magi who have made this ability available to use through a long time.[2] As such, Reality Marbles represent the pinnacle of all Bounded Fields where the boundary line becomes the space itself.
The thing about it is... that it's literally no different than how Espers do their abilities... but on a smaller scale for the latter and the larger scale for the former(Who has to consistently fight against the Planet who is trying to overwrite the invading Reality back to itself):
The World constantly attempts to crush the unnatural bounded fields as they are not created by spiritual beings, meaning that it costs a great deal of magical energy to construct one and keep it stabilized. This generally only allows them to be used for a few minutes,[2] but given their powerful nature, that is likely enough time to properly utilize them; even the strongest Dead Apostle cannot maintain a Reality Marble for more than a single night.[6] Each world has its own set of patterns and rules, which can be said to be an invasion of reality by the diagram inscribed on the soul, and as it is just one aspect put into form, the user cannot add their own will into the form of the barrier.[2]

This is why Goetia's, completely away from the Earth and in the Infinite Numbers Space, was able to maintain his forever and it was the size of a Galaxy.
When you add that in to characters can explicitly mess with and destroy Reality Marbles... it already implies that the same can very, VERY much be done to Espers in To Aru:

They will encase anyone within range, causing them to disappear from view. Magi are still able to feel the presence of the Bounded Field, and while they cannot be directly affected from the outside, a large burst of mana, such as Excalibur, may be able to disrupt them.

And we see that happen with Enuma Elish and Photon Ray with Altera in Fate/Zero and Fate/Extella respectively.
What this means is simple:
The Nasuverse, as a whole, has a massive advantage against To Aru because of the very nature of their abilities primarily screws with the fashion that Espers project their powers in the World and are FAR stronger due to having to consistently deal with the Planet re-asserting it's own Reality just as much(Nasu even has an interview that if 2 Reality Marbles intersect, the strongest one will override the weakest one, further showing that mechanic always happens even against Reality Marbles.)

When two Reality Marbles are deployed the one with higher output (magic foundation, magical energy) would be deployed. If both parties are equal in power and successfully deploy their Reality Marble, they would enter a state of two worlds in conflict. Reality Marbles do not move from the place they were deployed at (they don't move along with the user), so the user would have to decide whether to draw the enemy into their own world, invade their opponent's world to crush them, or wait for both to run out of time and go back to fighting on neutral grounds.[7]

And when there are characters that can explicitly deal with and destroy Reality Marbles... then what are the Espers gonna be able to do about it? They explicitly can destroy the very way they can use their powers on an even stronger version of it.
And what can they do against TYPEs that while sleeping, can override the Earth's Reality? Or the Trees of Emptiness which can explicitly bleach the Reality entirely? Nasuverse uses Reality Warping... as one of it's most basic mechanics.

That lance being Othinus' Gungnir. I don't think I have to go over why Gungnir is universe level.

Me and Masterblack also saw that same attack has an extremely lengthy chant that needs to be spoken before it actually works...
So if you are only Universal in that instance due to that sort of thing? It kinda takes away from it by alot.
This is further NOT helped by the fact that taking the Novels immediately at their word isn't also how we do things because we have people doing that in Spacebattles with the Magical Gods and we got:
Multiversal Magical Gods that are Infinitely powerful even at Infinitely dividing selves that are faster than the concept of speed... that ultimately gets their asses easily kicked and worfed, especially by a character who explicitly didn't want to go full Majin but somehow has an attack that is Universal... but how it's described makes no sense and is x10 that... because.

And I say this AGREEING that To Aru is atleast Universal. It's clearly obvious the Author has a serious case of purple prose and actually trying to explain anything to atleast a decent degree.

I want to make one final point before I'm done because well... I'm motivated now:

Reality Marbles and Marble Phantasm are both ways to create another world, but Reality Marbles turn everything into their own world that even its users cannot change, whereas Marble Phantasm manipulates only natural things as its users want. In other words, both ways have good and bad points.[2] Areas filled with grudges and remnants of strong regrets are like Reality Marbles to spirits.[16]

Marble Phantasms are so much similar to Reality Marbles... well, Arcuied has shown to do some absolutely bullshit things...
When Arcueid uses Marble Phantasm on Michael Roa Valdamjong, she turns layers of the corridor's atmosphere into a vacuum that had cut him like a knife would a radish. Although Roa himself was not affected, there was no way to avoid being chopped in pieces by the atmosphere, and Roa only narrowly managed to remain as just his ankles - Arcueid's imagination didn't go as far as having the floor dislocate.[1][3] If Arcueid takes off her limiter, she can probably materialize an entire small village in the mountains. In locations where humans have made changes, it will take more time to first break it down.[4]

It doesn't really matter if Arcueid has to work around Humans... if she can basically drop a Copy of The Moon on you and that's still not at 100% and can, as we like to say, play pinballs with Continents and mess with alter probability throughout the World:
Imagination Realisation
Marble Phantasm.

An ability possessed by the nature spirits that are the planet's sense of touch, allowing them to reconstruct the world through probability alteration. By connecting their will to the world, they can transfigure it into whatever environment they imagine. However, the same cannot be done with things like humans or animals, which exist independently of the world. Imagination realisation is purely the ability to freely transform one's surroundings.

Moreover, the reason why the Millennium Castle suddenly appeared in the city of Souya in the Ciel route is simply because its True Ancestor lord (Arcueid) willed it into existence.

So again, Accelerator would have the same issues against Arcueid then he would with similar Reality Marble users because what's stopping her from truly going nuts with her imagination and the known laws of the World... and basically put him in a situation where it doesn't matter? Like put him in a corridor where there is zero air?
