Given it's a storm cloud, and storms are created by cumulonibi, we'll go with the height of a cumulonimbus, which on average is 12,000m. Distance to the horizon from the viewpoint of the average height is 4.7km, or 4700m. Volume as a cylinder.PTS Patch Notes v5.2.0 said:Frost & Storm Dragons
Frost and Storm Dragons from the far reaches of Tamriel have come out of hiding. Drawn to Elsweyr by their brethren, these fearsome creatures bring unique and devastating destruction magic to bear on those brave enough to face them.
- Frost Dragons summon fierce winter storms and cause frozen spears to burst forth from the ground. Storm Dragons call lightning from the skies and annihilate foes with fearsome blasts of shock magic.
- Rumors of Dragons that manipulate the flow of time have also spread through the taverns and caravanseries of Elsweyr, as have tales of long-dead skeletons erupting from the earth to serve Draconic masters.
- The creatures themselves have grown bolder, chasing enemies across the battlefield to rip into them with tooth and claw. Dragons tire of their environs and take to the skies when they are not engaged, so those who dare challenge them must be prepared to fight or give chase.
- These new Dragons and Dragon behaviors are found in both Northern and Southern Elsweyr!

Dragonhold said:Khamira: How did the Dragons island get into the sky? And where is Tharn? Five-claw, tell me what is happening!
Vestige: Kaalgrontiid is trying to become a god. The floating island is part of his plan.
Khamira: The prophecy of the Dark Aeon and the New Moon...I should have seen it sooner. But what of Tharn? Where is he?
Vestige: He's still on the island. He used the last of his strength to send me to get help.
19:15Dragonhold said:Abnur Tharn: I had a feeling that you were behind the disruption of the other focal points. Figured I'd help...by taking out the last one.
Vestige: Tharn, you don't look so good.
Abnur Tharn: Ever the voice of...support and tact. Considering the circumstances, I could be worse. Unfortunately, I believe we...solved one problem...and created another.
Vestige: What do you mean?
Abnur Tharn: To safely absorb all that energy...Kaalgrontiid needed the focal points. As close as he is to his ascension...safety will be the furthest thing from his mind. If he proceeds with his ascension and makes even the slightest mistake...
Vestige: Tharn, what happens if Kaalgrontiid makes a mistake?
Abnur Tharn: If Kaalgrontiid tries to ascend without the focal points...he could unleash all that pent-up energy. The resulting blast would destroy Elsweyr...perhaps all of Tamriel...
Vestige: Tharn, are you all right?
Abnur Tharn: You worry more than...a Nord nurse maid... To the center of the island. It's time to end this.
Vestige: What happened to you after the island started to rise?
Abnur Tharn: I ran...dodged falling bricks and leapt over collapsing floors. Made my way to the surface...only to find we were a league or more in the sky.
Vestige: Then what did you do?
Abnur Tharn: I did what any proper battlemage would do...I hid. As you can see, I'm in no condition to take on Kaalgrontiid by myself. So I watched...and waited. How did you get back here, by the way?
Vestige: Khunzar-ri's spirit lead us through the Jonelight Path.
Abnur Tharn: Of course he did. If we survive this, you can explain that to me later. Now, let's go try to kill that damn dragon.
20:19Dragonhold said:Abnur Tharn: Even in death, that damn Dragon haunts me! If that aeonstone shatters, Tamriel is doomed!
Vestige: Tell me how to stop this, Tharn.
Abnur Tharn: No, my friend. This task requires a Dragon...and a battlemage. Take Khamira and Sai Sahan. Find a way out of here. Nahfahlaar and I will contain the explosion.
Vestige: We're in this together, Tharn.
Abnur Tharn: And we have accomplished amazing things. But this...this isn't something you can help me with. Save the others. I need to reach that crystal before it explodes.
Vestige: I can't just leave you here to die, Tharn.
Abnur Tharn: I prepared for a moment such as this. I insist that you trust me, this one last time. If this is goodbye, my friend, it has been a privilege.
Vestige: Do what you have to and finish this, Tharn.
21:02Dragonhold said:Nahfahlaar: I must aid the wizard, or the explosion will destroy everything!
27:00Dragonhold said:Khamira: Tharn was a better teacher than I gave him credit for. When I needed to do it, I was able to open a portal. The island. It exploded. But the blast spread no farther. Tharn did it. Elsweyr is safe.
Kaalgrontiid on his way to trying to achieve godhood absorbs through the aeonstones enough power to rip the island of Dragonhold from the ground and levitate it over a league in the sky. His full energy is enough to destroy Tamriel. Abnur Tharn and Nahfahlaar reduce this from a continent destroying explosion to an island level one. This is also the focus of the final cinematic for Season of the Dragon, and said explosion is even seen in Skyrim.Dragonhold said:Vestige: What happened on Dragonhold at the very end, Nahfahlaar?
Nahfahlaar: The battlemage wanted to contain the energy of the aeonstones. To keep the release from destroying anything beyond the crumbling island.
I helped him achieve that goal before I returned here.
Vestige: And Abnur Tharn? Did he escape the destruction of the island, too?
Nahfahlaar: I do not know. The battlemage was weak, exhausted, but he refused to give up. He wanted to save you. Save this land. I lent him enough of my power to accomplish that task.
It was the least I could do after he helped stop Kaalgrontiid.
Next, we need to find the average elevation of Tamriel. I would have just gone with a low end of the lowest elevation in the world, but it's blatantly clear Tamriel has a higher elevation than the Maldives, so we'll get an average of all the countries average elevations.Arena Manual said:If you are near the edge of one region the automap may not show you the next region until you enter it. Finally, the last Black Book grants Dovahkiin the power to alter the skill constellations, and visions of the skill constellations appear in the game (not in the menus), and you can alter them in exchange for a dragon soul. Which would mean that end of game Dovahkiin at least scales. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Demo Part 1 said:Todd Howard: With the skills menu you look to the heavens...
IF this is not enough; word of god not only confirms that this was a bug they kept in because it was so funny, but giants can launch people into orbit!Giants seem peaceful enough. Until you threaten them. Then they swing huge clubs and launch even a burly Nord over field and stream. The trip probably kills the Nord. That would be my guess, as I've never been able to interview a survivor of a giant's swing.
To send someone into orbit would mean the giants have to hit them at escape velocity speeds, which on Earth (or an Earth-sized planet) is 11.2km/s (or 11200m/s).A lot of people don't know this, but I originally designed the Giant to look like my father, Jim Lobe (you can google him if you like, he's a journalist). With his weathered features and weary demeanor, the Skyrim Giant was meant to convey a profound feeling of oldness, of a long life lived in the sun. I wanted players to feel like children again, small, in awe of the largeness of our parents as they moved around the house. To create this, I referenced the art of Adam Adamowicz (obviously - he was the concept artist there at Bethesda Softworks!), farmers from around the world (to get that creased-skin look) and African tribal scarring (blended with a Celtic influence).
The model, fully-clothed, weighs in at around 12k polys. Watch out for that club - it'll send you into orbit.
(Fun-fact: We at Bethesda identified that physics bug in the game almost right away... and then decided it was too hilarious to take out!)
Put this through Nuke Map and mess around some and we get a fireball yield of 0.000797 kilotons (or 0.797 tons of TNT).A fiery explosion for 40 points of damage in a 15 foot radius. Targets on fire take extra damage.
Let's put this through Nuke Map and play around until we have an accurate radius, and with an accurate radius we get a fireball yield of 0.001634 kilotons (or 1.634 tons of TNT).
Using Nuke Map once again and playing around with it until we have an accurate radius, we end up with a fireball yield of 0.0908 kilotons (or 90.8 tons of TNT).A 100 point fiery explosion centered on the caster. Does more damage to closer targets.
So fierce the sea will boil eh? Why not take this at face value (just because)?Northward, haunted northern coastline
And south, Dwemer live and toil,
A simple place, a shield from draft.
At this stand wield mage's craft
So fierce the sea will boil.
The Sea of Marmara will be the example we use, given it's very small. The Sea of Marmara has a volume of 3378 km^3 (or 3.378e+12m^3). The weight of water per m^3 is 1000kg.Still, that leaves dozens of water bodies that fit the traditional definition of a sea, even though they can be quite different from one another. A sea can be more than 2.6 million square kilometers (1 million square miles) in area, such as the Caribbean Sea. Or, it can be as tiny as the Sea of Marmara, which is less than 12,950 square kilometers (5,000 square miles) in area. This tiny Turkish sea connects the Aegean Sea and the Black Sea.
The Weak Fireball spell causes a small explosion, which in terms of gameplay is 5 feet in radius (as you can see above compared with a troll). 5 feet is 1.52400m. Enter this into Nukemap and we have a yield of 0.0000506 kilotons for a radius of 1.52m, or 0.0506 tons of TNT.Weak Fireball Spell : Fire Damage 5 pts in 5 ft for 3 secs on Target
Using Nukemap again for a radius of 3m and we get a yield of 0.000278 kilotons (or 0.278 tons of TNT).Fire Ball Spell: Fire Damage 30 pts in 10 ft on Target
The Greybeards speaking causes the world to shake. Todd Howard himself confirms this is literal.Pocket Guide to the Empire said:From the Odes:
"He was born in Atmora as Talos, 'Stormcrown' in the language of the ancient Ehlnofey, and it was from that shore he sailed. He spent his youth in Skyrim among the Nords. There he learned much from the Tongues and their chieftains and their ways of war. At twenty he led the invasion of Old Hrol'dan, taking it back from the Witchmen of High Rock and their kinsmen.
"Soon the Greybeards made known that they were restless. Already the storms had begun from their murmurs. The Greybeards were going to Speak. The surrounding villages were abandoned as the people fled the coming blast.
"The villagers warned Talos to turn back, for he was marching to the mountain where the Greybeards dwelt.
"Inside he went, and on seeing him they removed their gags. When they spoke his name the World shook.
"The Tongues of Skyrim told the son of Atmora that he had come to rule Tamriel and that he must travel south to do so.
"And it is true that Talos did come to Cyrodiil shortly after the Battle of Old Hrol'dan.
"And it is true that a great storm preceded his arrival."
The Greybeards of the 4th Era do this too, once again shaking the world.Skyrims Dragon Shouts (Game Informer) said:In the lore, Tiber Septim was the first main emperor. He could shout. His way of the Voice was unmatched,” Howard explains. “He is the original guy who walks the seven thousand steps and talks to the Greybeards. And the idea is, at that time, that they were so powerful they had to have all the villages flee for miles. This little kid is walking up this snowy mountain, and all these people are packed up and they’re walking down and away. Because they know the kid is going up to talk to these guys, and when they talk there’s going to be avalanches.”
What's more, it was felt in Winterhold by.Interview with Todd Howard said:Todd Howard: The greybeards, the guys who live up on the throat of the world, who are the masters of the voice, they find out about this fairly quickly, and they shout your name. They shout Dovahkiin to the wind, and it kind of rumbles through the world. The mountains shake when they call you. And you think ‘what was that,’ and someone says ‘that was the greybeards calling you. To walk the 7,000 steps up the throat of the world to meet them.'”
So yeah, it's literal. Not shaking the perspective; it rumbles through the world and shakes the mountains, and indeed the entire world. Looking at the mercalli chart, it would rank at a IV or V.Skyrim said:Dovahkiin: What about the Dragonborn?
Urag_gro-Shub: What about... wait. Are you? Were you the one the Greybeards were calling?
Skyrim said:Dragonborn: Why don't the others talk?
Arngeir: Their Voices are too powerful for anyone not trained in the Way to withstand. Even a whisper could kill you.
Which is very different from the words of storm call, Strun Bah Qo. Alduin doesn't even say any of those words. My point being this is not a specific shout but Alduin's power getting unleashed upon his death. The horizon from 1.7m (average height) up is 4.7km away, or 4700m. Storm clouds are cumulonimbus, which are on average 12000m tall. Volume of the area as a cylinder.Skyrim said:Alduin: Zu'u unslaad! Zu'u nis oblaan! (I am eternal! I cannot end! (be ended/be killed))!
