Another late reply but...Shounen is still doing okay.
Are there a lot of shit shounen sure. The scanlation field has gotten bigger to the point they can't pick only the best and now they are picking the mediocre and the worst works. But we still get good to great stories out of it.
As for AAA games.
That shit is literally about to explode.
Corpo are trying to literally take away your ownership not just the game but literally the console you bought something you should have the power to use for as long as you can repair it/fix it.
But with how they made it a live service the moment you open it. You literally bought a console that's literally going to be pointless when all live services stops working and we all know they will have a kill switch it's just a matter of when they will use it.
When it comes to all critical talk about those Western AAA games and Western games in general, I'm surprised nobody here with the exception of myself has still mentioned how bland and ugly their game's character designs and artistic styles are compared to Japanese developers by and large. And their gameplay style, design philosophy, and overall aesthetics. And how the quality and quantity of the most iconic characters from both sides of the equation compare to each other.
Now the better and more interesting question that I would present for everyone here:
Who are better and more appealing/interesting series or characters?
Ones from Western AAA games (modern ones at least)?
or
Mainstream Shonen Jump/Battle Shonen MC's?
