"Maybe. And we have Tatsunoko thanks to Golden Age Superman. The creator of Tatsunoko received a comic of Superman from an American soldier when he was a kid and decided to create characters and stories based on Superman's stories."

So the Anime or Japanese equivalents to Superman before Dragon Ball existed. The Goku's before Goku.

Also, @Doronbo_Shirake I wish Anime/Manga had at least one truly iconic character for the medium if not the country's entire pop culture that was created around the time of Astroboy or even earlier...

That was actually much more closer to Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, or other Golden Age American Cartoons in terms of their nature, characteristics, cartoony reality-breaking abilities/powers, and versatility as mascots or icons in merch than Astroboy. Besides Doraemon himself.

Then we'd have a TRUE Anime/Manga/Japanese equivalent to Mickey Mouse that's actually more like Mickey Mouse in abilities and traits with toonforce and reality-warping powers and shit. Besides our favorite blue robot cat.

Astroboy as the Japanese Mickey Mouse doesn't really make me feel satisfied nor enthused by any metric.

Astroboy would be more like the Japanese Superman or Superboy before Goku and Gohan existed.

And Doraemon in a way feels sometimes a bit more like the Japanese Bugs Bunny to me.

I agree. BTW, forgot to mention that the villains of Time Bokan saga are based on Wacky Race characters. Wario and Waluigi are based on these villains. And the man that designs Tatsunoko characters like Doronjo or the Gatchaman designed the characters for Final Fantasy I to VI.

also sadly I know someone used to post on the OBD who's a Doraemon hater: Mabel Gleeful.

Complaints about being "muh cashcows" or "people only praising doraemon and perman for muh nostalgia" and "no real plot development or character blah blah blah" Which is kinda sad lmao.

Well, Doraemon is a slice of life story. By the way, I put a feat from Looney Tunes in the Feats of the week thread.

I mean just read these bruh: https://ibb.co/H4bfdQ2

This guy's comments in a nutshell:
"doraemon sucks, deal with it"
older people only praise old series like doraemon (and perman) out of nostalgia
they're both just eternally long-running worthless cash cows not worth anybody's time
no plot progression
no story to tell
are annoying to watch every single day
taking time slots from better series with actual development
complained that Doraemon is taking away time slot from his favorite shows like Metal Hero
accuses Doraemon of having no character development.

LOL that was kinda painfully cringe for me to read for the most part.

What's even more ironic is that this dude said that he's from Latin America and laments about how much Doraemon is shoved down his throat in the region.

What do you think? What do you find wrong with this guy's takes? Do you think this dude is coming off like someone who doesn't want to admit that Doraemon beats their favorite anime/manga series in popularity? Or does he have some valid points, even if you guys think the Doraemon hate is still mostly unwarranted?

Also I'd like to add that he hates the Pokemon anime as well, which I can definitely agree with, and I want to know reasons what makes Doraemon still a better anime or series than Pokemon that you all still enjoy to this day because it still has something that Pokemon doesn't have to keep you hooked and what sets it apart from Pokemon.

And he mentioned about Nippon Animation being true anime classics, which I can also certainly agree with, even though I still prefer doraemon as an icon, a character, and a franchise more than all of them, they seem to be more artistic and highbrow animation than doraemon, say something like world masterpiece theater for example (I can't wait to get into that series, i think an actual collab or crossover between doraemon or shin-ei animation or fujiko fujio AND nippon animation would be the best).

I will be considering on moving this convo to your profile soon btw.

Same happens here in Spain. People managed to get rid of Doraemon (and Tom & Jerry) so they can broadcast new episodes of Detective Conan, a series whose plot moves every ten years or more. Now, these people are missing Doraemon.

Well, I lost interest in Pokémon after 5th generation.

You apparently still didn't comment on Mabel Gleeful's comments lmao.

Spain got rid of BOTH Doraemon and Tom & Jerry?

Fucking assholes.

Only in the Catalan tv. Fans wanted more Detective Conan and anime. At first, I liked Detective Conan. But now, I find it very boring always with the same plots that goes nowhere.

Conan up finish

So Detective Conan is just as repetitive as this other dude accuses Doraemon of being?
