From Lord of Souls, after Umbriel stole a large portion of Viles power, what remains of his Realm (the Fields of Regret) are twisted and unhealthy, with there being unsettling patches that seem more to be 'stains on the sky' than clouds. Similarly, the woodlands are twisted and sickly (and even melted looking), with scents of decay beneath the smell of the wildflowers. Curiously, this realm is compared to the works of the painter Lythandas of Dar-Ei (whom we meet in Oblivion; there are theories that the Brush of Truthpaint is actually an artifact of Clavicus Vile rather than Dibella). As they pass through this realm, they see a creature which changes shape several times, from a bird to a butterfly to a winged caterpillar. With most of his powers missing, Clavicus Vile can only maintain his realm (or at least this world in particular) for around a mile in radius, beyond which it all becomes a shimmering chaos.
