Yep, an excellent summary of at least one of the key reasons why the Resident Evil games work and continue to be successful, whereas their adaptations are total shit. In adaptations, they always go for the apocalyptic scenarios where the zombie outbreak spreads everywhere. It gets to the point where even if the heroes win in the end, what have they accomplished? The world is still basically screwed. This is completely antithetical to what Resident Evil is in the games. In the games, the outbreaks are always contained before they can reach that point, thanks in no small part to the efforts of the heroes. There's actually a layer of hope at the end of Resident Evil games that, even if they don't stop bio-terror for good, there will always be heroes like Chris, Leon, Jake, Jill etc who will be around to limit the damage the outbreaks cause and stop the people responsible. You can call it cheesy if you want but, considering how long the games have been around, how many of them there...
