Guess I dislike the Dark Schneider character for similar reasons I dislike OG Tsukihime Shiki Tohno. Did he really need to try and rape Michael? Things I just wrote off as edgy in 2011 just rub me wrong now. Like, I can whole heartedly recommend Berserk to someone else because while the elements of sexual abuse are graphic, they’re treated with actual gravity and some level of respect. Can’t bring myself to recommend OG Tsukihime (or volume 3 of Kara no Kyoukai) or Bastard!! because the former is ultra edgy early Nasu sledgehammer writing and the latter treated it like a gag. Which is a shame, the imagination for the setting in both are worth experiencing, I just know if that shit makes me feel off then it’s probably going to rub others around me wrong too. Also speaks of a weird disconnect that I can tolerate someone genocidal like OG Vegeta, but that probably has more to do with my brain not fully processing the sheer scope of his atrocities enough to be bothered compared to...

I mean, I love Nasuverse and I understand why that puts people off. Really made it hard for me to like Tohno Shiki in the OG Tsukihime. He's much easier to enjoy when that's absent (Melty Blood was whole sale more enjoyable for its absence), but it appears in a few routes because his blood lust induced insanity... which is not something he needed added to his character and could have been tackled any number of different ways instead :skully Not wrong there. Its why he has his ho-hum motive and how that effects the people around him and how those interactions further shape him that makes him compelling to me.

Its mostly carried by the characters and their interactions (and more recently with the Gacha shit waifu bait), world building, and college freshman philosophy Sans the waifu bait, I pretty much enjoy it all for what it is (I unironically like Shirou Emiya and his internal conflict :maybe), awkward/fumbled usage of things like rape as drama aside... didn't really need to lean so hard into that young Nasu.
