My advice is to just salvage every single weapon or armor you come across honestly. Blacksmithing is gonna require more patience when it comes to trying to get the best materials possible, and it's likely you're gonna spend a lot more time salvaging equipment than actually crafting it. You're probably going to have 99% trash materials and 1% good materials by the time you're done.

Longbow/Bow is ridiculous for stringing long combos, to where you're likely going to kill most non-bosses before you can get it set up. Using Harpoon with Lunge is always good, the latter can be used as a sort of dodge in a lot of occasions but with both you can loop them together pretty easily. Might armor is probably the best way you can still take a lot of hits while still being able to string long combos and deal high amounts of damage, especially considering there's a fair amount of Longsword support lot in the Finesse tree. I personally use Finesse armor though since the damage output with it is ridiculous that and it just looks better imo
