OBD Convo #21: The Power of Delusions

Yeah the second act is good but the first act is dogshit imo the juxtaposition is crazy with how idiotic Peter is compared to how subdued and resourceful every other Spider could be. Aunt May was straight up a punchline in the first two movies. She was a prop. Uncle Ben is basically confirmed to not exist. At least not acknowledged.

One of my favorite aspects of Clone Wars is just how Anakin slowly comes closer and closer to killing Dooku every time they fight.

OBD Convo #21: The Power of Delusions

One of my only gripes with the series is that Anakin shouldn’t have looked like his episode 3 version right off the gate that is something I appreciate more with the original Clone Wars. You see a more clear visual progression with his design. Just like how you saw a clear progression with Luke from White to Grey to Black

Its about not being viewed as a pansy. he has to be either a charismatic good guy or a bad ass bad guy that isn’t viewed as a “bad guy”. That’s why he wants to be the “Anti-Hero”. It coincides with him “not being like other heroes” while not framing him as doing anything that might actually make him disliked by the larger community

Dwayne can never admit to being anything like a villain. one of his movies with Ryan Renolds shows how bad it is. He can’t ever be cast in a negative light because of his ego

Sasuke gets more hate because he got more praise “in-universe” than Naruto did at Part 1. So while they are both orphans and you could argue that Sasuke had the more traumatic experience, he never received any scorn from the people around him and eventually got friends. So when he does push everyone away for revenge you kinda stop feeling as bad for his situation, and it’s just a story about a decent character—if even that— just becoming a worse and worse person. Not just that but he also completely changed the entire goal of the story. The story now centered around him just as much as it did Naruto and that didn’t elevate the story or make him a deeper character. Also Vegeta got more punishment for his misdeeds, despite the fact that a lot of his misdeeds are more easily reversible than Sasuke’s thanks to the Dragon Balls. So every time Vegeta got too arrogant he got his ass kicked. Sasuke gets a slap on the wrists for his misdeeds. There is a reason why so many people remember...

All they criticize here is that he’s unoriginal. Which isn’t evidence that he’s a weak protagonist. A trope being repeated doesn’t mean a character is weak or strong. Archetypes are common for a reason. Most characters facing insurmountable odds are underdogs anyhow
