They also used the Byakugan's abilities in more creative fashions, like the nibba actually used it to see the chakra flow in a Fireball Jutsu that Itachi fired and he cut it in half with the Gentle Fist. Which makes total sense considering the synergy between GF and Byakugan. Too bad Kishi is both brain dead and also doesn't care about it.
