Nah, that's just game mechanics. There is a feat of soldiers from Contra tanking planet busting explosion while being at the epic center. Bill Rizer’s clone was able to defeat an alien robot who was able to move the moon. Bill Rizer clone’s partner Jaguar was able to cut the planet in half with his katana in one of the endings.

This feat was also done with Gava’s cells. One of his cells has enough power to destroy countries/continents. Bill and Lance kicked Gava's ass multiple times.
