The Nasuverse took like 10 years, especially after the Fate/Extra CCC wank that even Internet WatchDog fully remembers.
And yeah, DBS took until like the Anime's version of BoG and even then alot of change to get Universal backing.

yeah I stopped posting for years shortly after BoG dropped but I remember it being extremely controversial at the time
I mean, I'd argue that light novels are relatively easier to argue for.
Like, it's pretty easy to find the source for a specific scan or not, barring issues of translation or the author exaggerating stuff.

Even now, that shit is a volatile mess that has VSB believing the Nasuverse only in that continuity(somehow) have 9-11D backing and Multiversal because of complete and utter BS that hasn't even been vindicated in it's sequels, let alone the series.
Eh? Translations is a major issue and a big ass problem even if it's meant well since Japanese to English is one of the hardest translations to ever do properly even compared to other languages so that's a huge barrier right there.
Then you have the sentence structure and similes which while it's something SB loves to use to try and disprove feats way too often IS a legit issue for Light Novels in comparison to just straight up pictures.

Translation's probably one of the hardest parts about this stuff. Onscreen feats are easy, but stuff that's explained in dialogue or lore is a lot harder for this very reason.
Xhom already mentioned Nasuverse, which is probably the biggest offender of this, but other series are subject to this too. FromSoft stuff being the first to come to my head. Shit, even Soul Calibur (a series I bat for) isn't immune to this if the Soul Archive is anything to go by

souls has a fuckton of things lost in translation which makes sense because Miyazaki's some kind of paychopath with how much detail and weird linquistic bullshit he ties into the story, but it usually doesn't cross with this hobby much at least

It's why you see me using official translations more often than Fan Translations since they are approved by the Japanese team(and don't tell me they aren't or we wouldn't have Altria for fuck's sake
) and even then, I usually use the Manga to make it even more apparent where the feats are.This doesn't mean Fan Translations cannot be used, you will need to make certain they are as close to accurate as possible and not a complete waste of time(For instance, Mirror Moon is a well known Translation team that's actually pretty bad at translating for the Nasuverse, sometimes taking the meanings way too literal compared to other translators of the Nasuverse).
If that isn't the understatement of the century I don't know what is.
