Still doesn't specify what separates the other universes. We still never see them cross a dimensional barrier of any kind. Which would be something you'd think they would naturally show.
Perhaps the ship is simply so fast that its the only thing capable of travelling such an impossible distance. Can you disprove that?

genuine question because I do want to read SM at some point (always liked the show but I knowthe manga is very different), what should I be looking for in translation and/or where can I read the real ones. Does any site rocking the volume scans from a few years back will do?

Its a great manga and all the different translations are good for reading the story. Tokyopop, MissDream (available for free), Kodansha.
But feat-wise they all mean entirely different things. MissDream created for instance the 'lighting up the universe' calc for SM which was accepted and used for awhile but Eternal changed it to only spanning the galaxy. Just a single choice of words can easily change a lot.
My personal recommendation is to go ahead and go for the Eternal Edition volumes. They are the 'perfect' and final english translation of the manga and are by far the most accurate. They have the volumes in digital format on the play store or amazon. But you could buy the physical on amazon for a little more.
