As much as people bitch about Disney not being faithful to the source material, but there ARE times when it works really well and makes for a more enjoyable story. The more I hear about the Hunchback book, the more glad I am that Disney changed the things that they did.

Same with Ariel having the happy ending that the original Little Mermaid definitely didn't get in the book.
