Japanese Kids have an entire genre on TV of shows like this to pull inspiration from for the suits so it makes sense to me that they can come up with some good ones.
What shit designs are they doing in the comics anyway?

Seems like Power Rangers is just in the same boat as Digimon and needs to remember that there's a lot more than just the first series.
It doesn't help that all of these re-design themes have been done better by actual Ranger and/or Sentai teams that exist already.
Yeah that first set is too busy and doesn't have enough of the actual colour.
The second looks better but I can't tell what the theme is supposed to be.

I'm pretty sure it's based off Kyuranger/Cosmic Fury based on the helmet design.
But even so, Kyurangers faceplates were based off animals, these just look like random shapes.
Yeah I think you just hit the nail on the head on what was bothering me about the second design.
There's no visible motif/connection between them. It's looks shiny and cool but theres nothing deeper.
