So I click on this video to see someone do a challenge run and I'm met with the following summary of the game's plot.
"Final Fantasy X is the story of a group of young people, fighting against a Theocracy that is hell bent on maintaining their political power, even if it means destroying the world around them. They're fighting a government that is Xenophobic and anti-science, that's predicated on a status quo of cyclical violence. Thank God it's just a video game right?"
WOW! I legitimately don't think I've EVER encountered a more fundamentally INCORRECT reading of a Final Fantasy's story before in my life. Which is saying something because I've seen people say some stupid shit about Final Fantasy XIII in particular.
Not saying they WEREN'T bad but definitely not to the extent this idiot tried to make out.
- Yevon isn't "keeping Sin around" they LITERALLY don't think there's a way to get rid of it. The damn thing went through the Machina armies of Bevelle for a shortcut when it was first created, every other attempt has failed miserably and the ONLY Machina they believed MIGHT be able to beat it (Vegnagun) would be just as much, if not MORE of a threat than Sin is.
- They truly believed the cycle of summoners sacrificing themselves was the ONLY way to keep Spira from being destroyed. It's not JUST about maintaining power, it's about keeping Spira alive and giving the people some semblance of hope, even if its a false hope, that Sin could be gone one day so the people didn't break completely to the despair.
- They hardly want to see the world destroyed (that's a Seymour thing specifically) considering that, when Yuna gets rid of Yunalesca and the Final Aeon, Mika freaks out and almost immediately sends himself because he had "NO DESIRE TO WATCH SPIRA DIE" which he felt Yuna had basically doomed them to at that point.
- They weren't "anti-science", for fuck's sake they used Machina themselves against the party and in their own main temple. They WERE authoritarian and against anyone trying to think for themselves outside of the system they laid out. This is why they allowed Operation Mihen to go ahead and persecuted the Al Bhed. These all necessary evils in their eyes in order to keep the world from being destroyed
I don't know how the fuck you misread the game's story this fucking bad though.![]()

Nope nothing announced for them yet
Name a more iconic duo than youtubers and not understanding RPGs
Chrono Trigger's Lavos is no ordinary villain—it’s a cosmic parasite, emotionless and indifferent. This video essay explores Lavos’ terrifying uniqueness and how its detached nature redefines JRPG antagonists.
The funny thing is that I checked later in the video where he goes over the "themes" of the game, calling it a "media literacy test" and then promptly regurgitates the same hilariously incorrect shit over again.Name a more iconic duo than youtubers and not understanding RPGs

I mean he brought up the Al Bhed laser doing "more to Sin's shield than, you know, swords".
Would that be the same laser that, even when there was NO SHIELD, ultimately did superficial damage (and only did that because they aimed for weak spots) with the TWO shots it was able to fire before overloading, leading to the party having to deal the real damage against Sin when he was about to nuke them with his overdrive?
Is that the laser you're referring to my man, 'cause it did fuck all that the party couldn't with their "swords"?![]()
And THIS is the thing I don't think he gets when talking about how bad the system Yevon maintained was.Which ONLY was able to work because Sin was weakened due to the Hymn of The Faith... which only happened because Jecht was the current Final Aeon that's operating Sin and loves the shit out of the Hymn...
So it's even more retarded considering the fucking game itself put on a huge ass scene of everyone on the planet singing it all at once for it to work!
