OBD Convo #59: RealxEyes

Oh yeah since this is a Kamen Rider thread, I cant forget the breath of Fresh Air that is Gavv after Gotchard

So Wrestlemania Night 1 was....ummm...kind of bad I'm not gonna lie.

Honestly it had very little going for it when the card was revealed but it somehow managed to be worse than I expected it to be. Basically the only things worth watching were Jacob Fatu vs LA Knight and the triple threat match at the end. By the way, it was another 5:2 in terms of predictions.

Jey vs Gunther was about as good as it could have been but I really HATED them having Gunther cheat by using the title belt AND having him TAP OUT. If you wanted Jey to beat him with the sleeper, have him PASS OUT. The fact he not only tapped out but did it very quickly made him look weak as shit.

By God you could not have PAID that crowd to give a flying fuck about the tag title match. And NO BIG E so there was literally ZERO reason for this to be on the Wrestlemania card while the three way TLC match for the smackdown tag titles ISN'T.

Naomi did her damndest to try and carry Jade to a good match but it just ended up kind of meh. Having Naomi lose is also pretty shitty considering she's been as a heel and that she's been carrying the fuck out of this entire feud.

LA Knight and Jacob Fatu FINALLY managed to wake the crowd up again (who'd been basically silent post-Jey title win celebration) and was the best match of the night in terms of in-ring work. Shows how good Jacob Fatu is, that the crowd from universally behind LA Knight - split between both 50/50 - not a soul booing when Jacob Fatu won the belt.

I get why they replaced Rey Mysterio who is injured, but why put Fenix in there just to hand him a lose and not Dragon Lee, Mysterio's protege? Regardless Fenix and Gable did good work in the ring but the crowd just DID NOT CARE and I can't say I blame them.

The best thing that can be said about Tiffany vs Charlotte, is that they made the right call and kept the belt on Tiffy. These two really have no chemistry with each other at all, there were points of this match that just looked bad and the crowd were (evidently) so convinced that Charlotte would win that they struggled to get into it. I know this because they actually got loud when it looked like, and subsequently, when Tiffany actually did win the match.

Now as for the main event. The star of the show here is the storytelling and that aspect was great, I enjoyed the match. Unfortunately Triple H went with IMO (and I'm sure most here will agree), the WORST option he could have possibly gone with. IE that not only did Seth Rollins win the match, but Paul Heyman betrayed BOTH Punk AND Roman and is now with Seth Rollins.

Night 2 really has a lot of heavy lifting to do in order to try and salvage this Wrestlemania.

Maybe I'm being more harsh than I would be normally because I watched Stand and Deliver and it was such a banger.
So Night 1 seemed even worse by comparison but still, there's not really much to say in its favour.

Like Jey vs. Gunther was Match of The Night as I felt while others hated how it ended, I think it made alot of sense with how Jey was humiliated and embarrassed during the leadups and Gunther got a taste of his own medicine. It's also obvious Jey was fucking TERRIFIED(he did the Superkick like only 2 times, tried to add more to his repertoire and worked on the fundamentals) because he didn't want to do another fuck up like his match with Jimmy.

Charlotte vs. Tiffany was a bust despite Tiffany winning because they tried so hard to make Charlotte a babyface and no one wants her back. Get her to feud with Kairi Sane so that Tiffany can become a good heel again

New Day vs. War Raiders sucked ass and it should have been MCMG vs. Street Profits

Jade vs. Naomi was actually pretty good as Jade got alot better in the ring. Either woman could have won and I wouldn't have cared.

EGA vs. Fenix was kinda bad for Fenix as it was obvious Rey was supposed to be there but I didn't see how he got injured in Smackdown but thank fuck EGA won, especially with the AAA buy in so that we already have Chad Gable being a damn real heel for them when he shows up there as EGA here and there.

LA Knight and Jacob Fatu was damn good and Fatu deserved that win, just don't fuck up LA Knight and have him get into the ME scene pronto.

But yeah, Main Event is garbage because I loathe Seth with a passion of a billion suns, I don't care if it was set up narrative, it was bullshit he won and I have grown TIRED of this man. Have him get embarrassed and get his back broken and get the fuck off of TV like Becky and rebuild yourself. Hell, I'd rather have Becky back and I don't even hate her, I just want the Women's division to not be tied down by her and Charlotte AGAIN.

I understand all of that, my sole complaint is that Gunther tapped out instead of passing out. He should have passed out after MUCH more of a struggle so that you don't end up making him look weak.

I'd be all for this, but they technically still need to finish the Nia Jax feud since Tiffy never actually got her 1v1 clean win against her.
Do that and then move on to Kairi or some other Babyface so Tiffy can turn heel again.
New Day vs. War Raiders sucked ass and it should have been MCMG vs. Street Profits
Especially with it now being MCMG vs Street Profits vs DIY in a three way TLC.

How the fuck did this NOT get on the Mania card? How Triple H didn't hear the GROANS of the crowd when Aldis said it would be on Smackdown next week and pivot to get it on the mania card is fucking beyond me.
Jade vs. Naomi was actually pretty good as Jade got alot better in the ring. Either woman could have won and I wouldn't have cared.
It wasn't bad, it just didn't really get me invested.
Agreed, I was worried they'd just have Fenix win because he only recently debuted. Having Gable win was absolutely the right call 'cause at least this shit is entertaining.

Yep

I don't necessarily hate Seth, I just find a potential 1v1 feud for Punk and Reigns significantly more interesting than anything involving Rollins. :smh

Nah I get it... but apparently this wasn't the first time as he also quickly tapped against Illja in NXT and while I love the shit out of Dragonuv(I think he's massively underrated and needs to get better ASAP), it's pretty bad considering Illja is the same size as Jey.

Especially with it now being MCMG vs Street Profits vs DIY in a three way TLC.

If Big E was cleared and interfered, it would have actually meant something... but it didn't so it's even more ridiculous that the match happened at Wrestlemania at all rather than what Smackdown has considering it's Tag Team Division is dimes(Atleast finally take Fraxiom out of NXT and actually have American Made be a fucking threat).

It wasn't bad, it just didn't really get me invested.

Nah, I get that. Naomi is killing it as a heel but Jade hasn't done much outside of destroying Naomi twice so it's hard to really invest a story into that.

Easily the most entertaining thing WWE has done in a LONG TIME. Fuck anyone who bitched enough to remove Gulf of America because it damn certain wasn't actual Mexicans, they wouldn't give a shit and they would love this type of gimmick. It's literal easy as shit Heel heat especially if they use this to revitalize AAA in earnest.

I don't necessarily hate Seth, I just find a potential 1v1 feud for Punk and Reigns significantly more interesting than anything involving Rollins. :smh

Nah, that's most of it too. This was primarily Roman and Punk with Seth forcing himself in for zero reason... and now we have to deal with even MORE Seth except now he's going to be an even shittier Heel than ever before only carried by his theme song and nothing else...
yay.

I really like Ilja as well, hopefully with him not being locked into a feud with Bron Breakker like before, he can actually get wins and start really getting built up when he comes back.

In fairness, Ilja is a much more technical wrestler than Jey so him being able to make Gunther tap out wouldn't bother me as much as Jey doing it because it would certainly be at the end of a banger match.

Yep, match NEEDED Big E to justify being at Mania at all.

In fairness they're doing better with American Made since Chad Gable became El Grande Americano, which is a start. Fraxiom on Raw would help out SO MUCH. The Lucha Bros would have as well but I prefer them trying their hands at being singles stars before going into tag team stuff.
Nah, I get that. Naomi is killing it as a heel but Jade hasn't done much outside of destroying Naomi twice so it's hard to really invest a story into that.
Can't believe I'm saying it but the match actually NEEDED Bianca to be involved in some way, shape or form.
Just having Naomi lose straight up really wasn't it.

El Grande should feud with Penta if the latter actually wins the IC title, not immediately obviously but still. Considering losing to Penta was the thing that sent Chad on this story arc in the first place and that he's always been obsessed with winning the IC title, it makes sense to me as the eventual end point (perhaps at Summerslam) of the EGA story.

Well and Paul Heyman I guess but even he's not a miracle worker.

I ain't denying that Illja is a technical wrestler and he was built as a dude who can take and dish out the pain equally but I'm still just pointing I don't have an issue with Jey submitting Gunther because it doesn't happen that much. I can understand people hating how quickly he tapped out which is why I brought up that it happened with Illja too.

I agree with the Lucha Brothers, it's better for them to be singles competitors rather than immediately be a tag team as it would build it up far better. American Made better use the work El Grande Americano gave them to actually matter in the Tag Team division and yes, Fraxiom NEEDS to be in RAW right now.

Can't believe I'm saying it but the match actually NEEDED Bianca to be involved in some way, shape or form.

I agree though really. If Bianca interfered and established her Heel turn here, it would make the Triple Threat have some actual heat.

Honestly, I want Chad Gable to be a World Champion but I am fine with him basically becoming a Mid-Tier Champion first. Also, it adds alot more spice with the AAA acquisition and Vikingo being there.

Well and Paul Heyman I guess but even he's not a miracle worker.
No he is not...
