OBD Convo #59: RealxEyes

Now before we crucify the woman over the AI recreation know that she apparently wanted maximum sentence towards her brothers killer.

And the video somehow got it?

Idk why she needed to do it as it's disrespectful either way but it somehow worked to keep the murderer behind bars.

To quote an attorney friend of mine, this is extremely prejudicial and needs to be banned.

This is like some funny ass South Park plot twist that makes zero logical sense but somehow wins it in the end for the protagonist for no other reason than nonsensical plot armor.

Like really what the fuck I have no goddamn clue what is going on? :whatisthis

Will Ospreay: I could out-wrestle all of their guys in the ring on my WORST day, AEW has the better in-ring talent.

No you couldn't Willy boy, because you actually need to be able to sell and effectively tell a story in the ring to out-wrestle the WWE roster. You are the textbook definition of style over substance when it comes to in-ring work. Any wonder he doesn't understand why "less is more" IS CORRECT with regards to why WWE wrestling is more enjoyable to watch than AEW wrestling. By the way, Ospreay couldn't lace Gunther's boots on Gunther's WORST day and I'd love to see him TRY to no-sell one of THOSE chops. :maybe

But even if we were to live in a make-believe land where the AEW roster was so much better, who are your top draws again? Who are the people I actually heard about before even watching AEW because they got that big? They're MJF and Toni Storm. Neither have the biggest move-sets in that roster, neither are the best in-ring worker in their division yet they consistently get the biggest reactions. Gee I wonder why that is eh? It's almost like they have personalities, characters and tell STORIES that entertain people.

If Will Ospreay and MJF went to WWE at the same time, who would no-doubt be main eventing Wrestlemania within a few years (at most) and who would be lucky if he ever even won a world title? Or hell a better question would be, who would AEW be able to survive the absence of longer? :mjpls

JD: What makes you think WWE couldn't put on matches like AEW does?

Not a god damned thing. If WWE wanted to do that style of flashy match-up they easily could. They don't do that because they know that it doesn't sell in the long term. Because as CM punk said, one of these companies is a business that wants to make money and the other is just the owner's plaything.

At least this duel is more back and forth in that they BOTH could have won earlier multiple times and the reason they didn't is because they wanted to stick to the Dark Magician mirror match, which is fair enough.

I really wish more Yu-Gi-Oh series would have instances of this where two different duellists have the same ace but play them differently. The closest to it would be Judai and Edo both using heroes or Kaito and Mizael both using Galaxy Eyes monsters, but it's not the same 'cause they're playing different sub-archtypes (ie Elemental vs Destiny and Photon vs Tachyon) rather than it actually being the same ace.

The Ectoplasm shenanigans I don't really mind with Dark Magician sacrificing itself, it works for the story and character stuff they were going for in this. Never mind that this is just a good duel even with the misplays.

Pretty much. It's one of the reasons why I just laugh and laugh at people who think Will Ospreay ever made a decent point here...
If Will Ospreay's style of wrestling was ever as huge as he stated it was, fuck AEW, ROH would have never went out of business.

As much shit as I give Seth Rollins for basically wrestling the Will Ospreay school of "Not selling shit and getting your shit in", atleast he's actually charismatic and capable of telling a story in the ring. The Miz will be remembered infinitely more for his Talking Smack rebuttal against Bryan Danielson than Will Ospreay will be remember for any of his overrated as shit 5 star Dave Meltzer matches.
It's like people forgot that Wrestling, much like Sports as a whole, is about the stories, not exactly what is happening in those matches.

There's a reason why the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series after decades of failure will be far more beloved than the New England Patriots going on a tear winning Championship after Championship. There's a reason why Dana White tries to get UFC fighters to actually feud with each other rather than just do the basic matches.
Because people care about the stories more than anything else.
