Also goes by Skeleton Soldier Couldn't Protect the Dungeon, is a manhwa action fantasy series. The author is Sosori, and Ant Studio does the art. It's quite good so far. The main character can never seem to catch a break. Even when he does get stronger, there is always someone else a lot stronger.

The plot summary

"Meet the Skeleton Soldier, a meager but fiercely loyal fighter who serves to protect its master, Lady Succubus. Its dream of a peaceful life with her is shattered when they're both brutally murdered by a group of warriors one day. I'll start with some feats and abilities

Before Skeleton Soldier gained the ability to level up, his level was level 36, seems like he also keeps his previous stats.

Rubia Ray's level and stats, her stats aren't as high as Skeleton Soldier. Skeleton Soldier can look at his party members level and stats.

Skeleton Soldier dies instantly from a mercenary who uses a hammer.

Skeleton Soldier comes back to life again. Gets to choose a perk. Skeleton's are weak against blunt weapons so Skeleton Soldier chooses the option of being resistant against blunt weapons.

The resistance kept him alive but the blow is still too strong. The mercenary with the hammer finishes him off.

Amount of trial and error, Skeleton Soldier did kill a couple of them but still dies. Onto his fourth life, Skeleton Soldier is fast enough to speed blitz all the mercenaries.

Skeleton Soldier goes over everything that has happened to him so far. He keeps his skills and stats after he dies. When he returns to life he receives a skill that is based on his experience or whatever killed him last time, some sort of reactive adaptation ability.

Reading books written by Kevin Ashton increases his Wisdom. Wisdom in this universe is how intelligent they are. Unknown if this happens with any books he attempts to read

If the Skeleton Soldier stays in a Dungeon for too long (his limit seems to be 182 nights), he would just become a mindless monster that will attack anyone on sight including allies.

After dying again, Skeleton Soldier has gains Necromancer's Lover skill.

Marquess Leandro Von Vatienne is one of the four greatest swordsmen in the Empire. Leandro easily defeated Skeleton Soldier.

Leandro has a Coercion skill, which seems to limit Skeleton Soldier's movement but not as bad as the old guy who's foaming at the mouth.

A Blacksmith explains that the Fire of Grasmere can't be extinguished even if it's quenched under the sea. Unless it's encased in a bottle of cold magic, dunno if this also means only cold/ice magic can put it out.

The Blacksmith gives Skeleton Soldier and his companion Lena a Flamethrower that uses the Fire of Grasmere.

Overusing the Flamethrower will catch the user on fire. Skeleton Soldier did this once and melted to death.

Skeleton Soldier cleared a dungeon and a boss. Learned a new skill called Dash that increases his speed further. Acquired the Red Jade.

A character called Slime is a changeling via an intelligent slime. Can make his body intangible and can cover people in this substance that melts and absorbs them.

Slime uses his Appraisal skill to identify the Red Jade for Skeleton Soldier. Slimes specialize in appraising items and creatures, he knew Skeleton Soldier was a skeleton underneath his armor.

The Red Jade is an ingredient for attempting changing class.

Skeleton Soldier reads another book by Kevin Ashton, his Wisdom goes up by 10 points and learns Insight skill. Insight lets him scan a creature and can look at their stats.

He uses it on his companion Lena who's a level 15 Thief.

Skeleton Soldier participates in a tournament and faces against Isaac Jacot. Skeleton Soldier uses Insight to see his stats.

Isaac attempts to swing his hammer down on the Skeleton Soldier, causing the ground arena to crack with his 35 Strength.

With Isaac's low Agility and Skeleton Soldier's very high Agility, Skeleton Soldier used this small amount of time to easily dodge Isaac's attack, break his weapon, and move halfway across the other side.

Skeleton Soldier easily knocks him out with the bottom hilt of his sword.

The next opponent is Collin Harrot, even with his high Agility Skeleton Soldier easily beats him.

Before his fight against Thibalt Reynolds, Skeleton Soldier two attempts to Insight his level and stats for it to only come up with question marks

During their tournament, Skeleton Soldier attempts to strike Thibalt. Thibalt easily dodges Skeleton Soldier's attack and moves across the other side behind Skeleton Soldier. Note: Thibalt is drunk in this fight.

Thibalt attempts to strike with his rapier, Skeleton Soldier barely dodged it.

Skeleton Soldier parries Thibalt multiple piercing strikes. Skeleton Soldier realizes why Insight didn't work on him, because Thibalt's a higher level or someone stronger than Skeleton Soldier.

Skeleton Soldier does well to hold his own against Thibalt, only for Thibalt to find an opening and attempts to kill Skeleton Soldier.

Skeleton Soldier survives for having no vital organs. Otherwise, a human fighter would have died.

Thibalt used to be in the Empire, not as strong Leandro.

Later confirmed to be a former Imperial Knight by Chris the Bruiser, another contestant of the tournament.

Skeleton Soldier adapts to Thibalt's fighting style and lands a strike. Thibalt dodges Skeleton Soldier's strike, Skeleton managed to graze his arm now bleeding.

This strike managed to sober Thibalt up and starts to get serious.

Thibalt while fighting serious having the upper hand uses some sort of energy to bend his blade to strike Skeleton Soldier, sending him flying.

Thibalt attempts to finish Skeleton Soldier, Skeleton Soldier attempts to block or parry. Thibalt uses that weird energy again to bend his blade, it successfully pierces Skeleton Soldier's neck.

A human being would have probably been killed, Skeleton Soldier seems sort of fine. Exhausted and gets back up.

Thibalt in a frenzied rage decimating Skeleton Soldier with his piercing attacks. Managed to put a hole in Skeleton Soldier's armor.

Thibalt forfeits and tells the Skeleton Soldier to become an Imperial Knight you need Sword Energy and a lot of it. Thibalt failed to become a knight because he did not have enough of it.

Skeleton Soldier using Insight to scan these peoples stats, the third guy is Chris the Bruiser his next opponent. Not as strong as Thibalt.

Uses Insight on the King's guards, comes up with question marks. The King is the one who runs the tournament. The guards are just as strong or stronger than Thibalt.

Skeleton Soldier's match against Chris the Bruiser. Skeleton Soldier is faster and manages to slice Chris. Chris managed to brush this off and retaliates with her attack, Skeleton Soldier dodges.

Chris slams her broadsword into the ground to make some dust and smoke. Manages to obscure Skeleton Soldier's vision, and goes for a surprise attack. Skeleton Soldier manages to block it but falls to the floor. Chris can crack the ground with her Strength and can make some big dust clouds.

Skeleton Soldier decides to be more aggressive, decimating Chris with his speed, and slashing his armor to pieces. Also turns out that Chris is a woman.

Christina slams Skeleton Soldier to the ground and creating a massive dust cloud. She activated a skill called Rampage that increases all of her stats apart from Wisdom.

Christina unleashes a powerful strike the creates a crater in the Arena.

Christina is too fast for Skeleton Soldier and sends him flying.

Skeleton Soldier uses his Dash skill to increase his speed further, he's now faster than Christina in her Rampage state. Skeleton Soldier avoid all her attacks, leaving afterimages, and then goes for a finishing strike.

Christina is still standing after this, and Skeleton Soldier's Dash skill has worn off and has a three-hour cooldown.

Christina's Rampage skill seems to have taken a toll on her stamina.

After the tournament, Skeleton Soldier and Lena go off clearing dungeons for three months.

I forgot to mention this. There is an organization/evil cult called the Gentlemen's Society of Necron. Their members have snake curse tattoos on their necks, and it will strangle them to death if they speak a word about their organization.

From being melted and burnt to ash by the Fire of Grasmere has granted Skeleton Soldier Flame Resistance, his fire-resistant is potent enough not to be affected by the regular fire.

Skeleton Soldier has Playing Dead skill, apparently playing dead is a skill and can be used as a stealth option.

Skeleton Soldier dodges some crossbow bolts.

But still gets hit by some of them.

He doesn't seem fazed by this and continues to attack.

The reason is that he obtain resistance against piercing weapons via Piercing Resistance during his three months.

Skeleton Soldier comes across a Hobgoblin being pelted by crossbow bolts. Hobgoblins have the ability to regenerate.

Their regeneration seems to be low-mid, going by this guys comment.

Skeleton Soldier dodges some more crossbow bolts by ducking.

The Hobgoblin's name is Bumtung Zechskies.

Usually, regular soldiers are no match for a Hobgoblin.

Skeleton Soldier tanking this bomb explosion.

A Goblin Rogue dodging a single crossbow bolt.

Bumtung goes into a rage and claws through a hole in this guy, instantly killing him.

Bumtung's Strength and Agility increases in his rage.

Bumtung attempts to attack Skeleton Soldier, but Skeleton Soldier blocks it and gets pushed back.

Skeleton Soldier assumes Bumtung's Strength to be in the high 20s or higher.

Still not strong enough to face Skeleton Soldier, who sends Bumtung crashing across a wall.

Skeleton Soldier manages to calm Bumtung down, increased his reputation with the Goblins. His Assimilation Rate seems to decrease every time he does quests or dies or just random, seems to cause Skeleton Soldier migraines.

Bumtung tells Skeleton Soldier a Goblin Magician story called Mud Cash, who created a magic bag that can hold an infinite amount of gold.

Skeleton Soldier confirms that the Demons get slaughtered during the war by human warriors in the future.

Skeleton Soldier feels overpowered by these creatures who mere servants of the Demons.

Retric Aisar the third chief of the Empire, also a giant deer with just a step creates lightning, the power of lightning is considered the weakest ability out of Frousson's powers. Frousson is a Demon King.

The reason for this power is because of Frousson's mark, which amplifies their powers by severalfold.

Retric uses his lightning to paralyze Skeleton Soldier and Lena, this paralyzing effect is potent enough that it stops them from opening their mouths to speak.

Skeleton Soldier and Lena both get killed by Slime who is disguised.

Skeleton Soldier's current level, stats and skills. Has obtained Acid Resistance from being killed by Slime.

Lena's level and stats, surprisingly Lena keeps her previous stats. Probably because she's Skeleton Soldier's party member.

A wandering swordsman Lord Chandler a Baron showing off his swordsmanship.

Skeleton Soldier gets put to sleep by an unknown powerful caster. The sleep spell is EX rank.

The unknown caster uses Restraint spell to decrease Skeleton Soldier's Power/Strength and Speed/Agility by 97%, including his vision. He can't move a finger.

Moments later, the caster adjusts Skeleton Soldier's stats and vision to 85%. Skeleton Soldier is now able to move.

Skeleton Soldier comes across a Skeleton monster who attempts to attack Skeleton Soldier. Skeleton Soldier can react to the attack, but the caster's Restraint spell has made his body not fast enough to dodge.

Skeleton Soldier adapts to the Skeleton monster and the Restraint condition. Skeleton Soldier defeated the Skeleton monster and snapped its shoulder bone.

Both the Skeleton monster and Skeleton Soldier get healed up by the unknown caster, most likely.

Skeleton Soldier's next fight is against an Orc Skeleton, who can easily react to his attack, but his body isn't fast enough to move with the Restraint condition.

Orc Skeleton manages to tear off Skeleton Soldier's arm. Skeleton Soldier uses his arm as an improvised sword and kills the Orc Skeleton with it.

Skeleton Soldier's injuries heal by the unknown caster just like last time.

The unknown caster magically spawns some weapons and tells Skeleton Soldier to choose in text.

Skeleton Soldier gets his power and vision return back to normal.

Skeleton Soldier comes across three more Orc Skeleton's, even with his power returned to him, Skeleton Soldier seems to be overwhelmed by their attacks.

The Orc Skeleton's managed to grab and pin down Skeleton Soldier. Orcs in this world do not behave in this manner and are controlled to carry out this instruction.

The unknown caster/necromancer telepathically communicates with Skeleton Soldier while sending Specters after him. It seems like this necromancer can read emotions.

The necromancer saying she can reassemble bones of any kind and mix them up.

The necromancer can only read emotions through images. He cannot read minds as Skeleton Soldier tries explaining he can repeat his life repeatedly, and the necromancer doesn't believe him.

The necromancer reveals herself to be Gilles de Rais, a half-human and half-skeleton necromancer.

Skeleton Soldier levels up by having Gilles touch him.

Gilles took Skeleton Soldier's parietal bone replaced them with some of hers, including some of her powers.

Gilles raises Lord Chandler as undead and fights Skeleton Soldier.

Skeleton Soldier easily cuts Chandler's head off, but his body continues to fight.

Skeleton Soldier goes for Chandler's heart and eventually kills him.

After killing Chandler, Skeleton Soldier can see the light coming from the corpse. Skeleton Soldier has a new skill called Essence Absorption. Within 48 hours of some creatures death, Skeleton Soldier can absorb their essence to gain new abilities and increase stats and skills.

Skeleton Soldier absorbs Chandler's essence and has gained 1 point in Wisdom, Draw Sword skill Lv1, and Defense skill Lv1. It has to wait for the essence to digest, though.

This power is from the bone that Gilles has given to Skeleton Soldier. Gilles can most likely absorb essence also.

Gilles uses a powerful S+ rank spell to shackle Skeleton Soldier, so he doesn't run away.

Gilles has a spell to hide from humans and possibly other creatures with a shield.

Gilles has given Skeleton Soldier a unique dagger chained to her and only recognises her as the owner.

Skeleton Soldier attempts to ambush some guards but fails.

A guard throws his shield at Skeleton Soldier with enough force to pierce a rock. Skeleton Soldier barely had time to dodge but succeeded.

The dagger seems to speak to Skeleton Soldier to kill them and makes his body move. With one small cut, some runes flow inside, turning his blood white. Instantly kill one of the guards.

With the dagger no longer controlling Skeleton Soldier, Skeleton Soldier attempts to use the dagger himself but not as effective.

Gilles helps out by shooting some projectiles at the guards who are now on death's doors.

When the Gille's dagger was in control of Skeleton Soldier's body, it amped his speed.

Confirmation from Gilles that the dagger's runes instant kill opponents with veins. Skeleton Soldier being a skeleton, has no veins.

Skeleton Soldier absorbs the guard's essence. The Absorb skill can be used within 48 hours of their deaths. As a result, he gains Spear Throw Lv1 skill, Pursuit Lv1 skill, and Spearmanship Lv1 skill. The Absorb skill has to finish digesting their essence for him to use them, which takes 6 hours. Making the kill himself would have made him absorb the skill much stronger and digest it a lot faster. He successfully killed one of them, at least.

It seems detecting magic in the area is a common thing among magic users.

Gilles attempts to assassinate the Emperor, but he is safeguarded inside his carriage surrounded by arcane letters/runes. Making magic spells ineffective.

Gilles de Rais is well known in the world. She is said to be one of the three most powerful Guardians of Amber and the best necromancer.

Gilles, with preparation, had her Skeleton engineers dig under the road and make it collapse. But, unfortunately, the road had a weak foundation.

Gilles's Skeleton minions use their combined might to push the Emperor's carriage over onto its side.

Gilles summons five undead armored knights to fight for her. The first is introduced as Guilot.

Guilot wrecking the shit out of the Emperor's army.

A spear is thrown at Gilles, who easily catches it. Gilles hurls it back, and one of the Emperor's knights in Mythril Armor dodges it.

The knight in Mythril Armor slashes their sword, which creates a powerful shockwave.

The second named Owayne, is an excellent swordsman.

When Owayne was alive, he has won all kinds of tournaments. The third knight is named Hamelyne, another swordsman who easily impales the three fodder knights simultaneously.

The third knight is named Andrei, nicknamed "The Heart Crusher". He quickly impales multiple knights in their hearts simultaneously.

The last and fifth knight is named Penrir, currently fighting against the knight in Mythril Armor. We also find out the knight in Mythril Armor is a woman. Penrir is struggling against her. The woman in Mythril Armor is matching Penrir blow for blow.

Guilot attempts to help Penrir and tag team the woman in Mythril Armor.

Skeleton Soldier is lost for words and overwhelmed by the current battle and the true power of the necromancer.

The Emperor's mages attempt to cast Divine Magic. Skeleton Soldier is sure that this will kill Gilles due to the undead being vulnerable to it. However, Gilles is a half skeleton. So skeleton Soldier attempts to stop them.

Gilles dispels their Divine Magic with Mandara of Anti-Divine.

Feeling flattered by Skeleton Soldier's attempt to rescue her, remember the previous S+ rank spell she used to shackle Skeleton Soldier via Chain of Onyx permanently. Well, she manipulates it to make him stay put.

The mages attempt to burn her with fire magic. Gilles uses Magic Expulsion to fire a projectile to cut the fire in half.

Despite being overwhelmed by Guilot and Penrir, the woman in the Mythril Armor can manage by herself, tank and dodge a few hits. However, Guilot and Penrir fighting together are too much for her.

Her fodder knights attempt to come to her aid, only to get one-shotted by Penrir.

Guilot and Penrir clash again against the woman in Mythril Armor. Only for her to go into a rage and push both of them back. Her sword is glowing. This might be Sword Energy.

Meanwhile, the Emperor's mages fire projectiles at Gilles only for her to block with her magic barrier.

The mages attempt to cast another fire magic. Finally, Gilles has had enough of their shit commands her skeleton minions to drop the Emperor's carriage onto them, killing them.

The knights were all killed, including the woman in the Mythril Armor. Their kingdom is called Durahan.
