i think its a good range, remember warworlds are really a patchwork of technology so its plausible they arent all the same size
though it is a understatement for the warworlds firepower as they noted they didnt want to decimate cybertron

tbf here i actually think this is based on the toy bios and spec ratings which were a lot more subdued than later media

We get to see how damaged Overlord was from this in Dying of the Light, it's actually severely less than when he got hit with the deterrent chips in LSOTW

yeah furman actually being patient zero for Upgrade Retcon disease is equal parts fitting but surprising. I think most people in this hobby have barely read any Furman (myself included, I didn't really start to read his stuff till this year) so they don't realize "oh he's ALWAYS been doing this"
keep in mind there's three years of Earth Wars plotlines by Furman that we don't have access to transcripts for, just videos that would take weeks/months to get through. So for all we know he's written other ridiculous feats like Lightspeed's in.
