You can't read people from how they interact with and around you which is one of the best tools you have as town to find scum (due to you knowing your own alignment when no one else is privy to this at least as far as the thread is concerned, the IC robs this because everyone knows that you're town so will play around you with a view to that). Also not much chance of leading town for long because if you're accurate you'll be killed early, and you also have to be mindful of the fact that if you're wrong you're going to carry a lot of influence which adds its own pressure.
 
I think it was Odo who drew IC in a game last year and very visibly hated it throughout

Yeah see that’s what I mean. The whole point of the IC is to keep pressure off your scumhunter. It also gives town a player they can place their trust in, as without an IC, town starts off not knowing SHIT unless there’s a mason
