Mafia General Discussion

More weary if anything, that's how usually these things go, especially if it's one group migrating to another forum. While that's not necessarily true because the folks over at the OBD joined and made this forum their new home without setting any expectations such as becoming a staff member before even joining. That section is constantly active because they want to be active, they don't need or want to be staff to be part of this growing community, they just do their thing. All while not entirely perfect, the section pretty much governs itself in the absence of the section moderators.

We don't hide things here, so I'll openly say that we are taking this discussion seriously, especially in an internal setting. Give us some time to think, decide, and plan, and I'm sure all parties will be happy with the decisions that are ultimately made.
Sounds good to me. Feel free to throw me into any conversation that is needed too

you guys still doing ranked and unranked games btw? ive always been a fan of that idea but it didnt seem to be appealing to WG folks
I think it works best but we need to collectively decide how we wanna do it going forward. I liked the idea because it allowed people to do games that aren’t well balanced without people trying to take them seriously because of the rankings

Not against modding someone else, mind you

But we also don't want people to get the impression we mod people if they refer enough people here, they won't see it as a circumstantial thing
It's either that, or we need to define what OLF mod bare requirements are

Advisor for now imo

And if he's fully dedicated to growing the section aswell as the forum, we can discuss official modship

I trust your knowledge and experience on that section Sam.

Thoughts, Siggy?

I like Ultra too, though, did he recently become active due to the new swarm of activity we just got recently? I can't keep up with everyone here lol. Make sure he's interested as well before we give him the promotion.

I wanna hear what @Sigismund has to say but if its all green, then I'll PM Ultra and then confirm back to Ral to promote him.

Here is what was discussed thus far.

I'm not fearful of any one individual, but we did the representative thing immediately and it backfired, since it was a build on an ultimatum that failed for both parties for different reasons.
And now you guys feel like you've been burned because there was an implication from whoever that this was a transactional thing and that's precisely what I did fear: feeling betrayed instead of mislead with a set of expectations.

I'm fine with giving Poyser perms for this section to do what he needs to do and to assist Ultra. I'm down with it, Ultra is down with it.
The internal stuff will be dealt with as the section hopefully progresses and the culture flourishes if we wind up getting others from foreign communities. But we don't tend to helicopter for sections that tend to want to take accountability for themselves - the OBD functions similarly, without even having a represenatitive be a true necessity.

What I want to be understood is that you be respectful of Ral and OLF'S conditions. If there's any internal strife among you, I need you guys to know to not escalate it.
The same goes for mods, if some of you have a rather poor history, then a mod or representative (as an epithet) should not engage either. I hope this isn't the case right now, but if it comes down to that, it might be.

So:
Give Poyser the section perms.
Let him and Ultra and I work together.
Start on the opening posts for some of these ideas, and let Ral or me know if there's anything that could be used as a way to help assist you busy bees. (Thread calendar add on? More HTML options to do spreadsheets? Etc)

I would have to discuss more in depth at a time when I’m more available but we had some shit with setups just getting ridiculously out of hand balance wise, and bastard wise.

Trust me I've been there.

If you took a sample of preferences of the players currently playing Gram's game, it would probably be towards lighter side of role madness, or traditional. Having standardized rules to facilitate these set ups is also a good idea.

But, like I said, I'm hands off, and the idea of strictly banning set ups that depart from standards seems excessive, as long as there is demand from the community for them. What's important is to be transparent about if a set up departs from standard, and that the host understands that. The most common denominator of bastard games in my experience is the person running them just hasn't run enough, which can be covered by a standard review process. So that nobody is deceived by how they waste their time.

since its the start of the new year and all how would u guys feel about an annual members mafia

that is, the players are the roles

we can do this game as a big OLF game once or twice an year

if people r down i volunteer for hosting one since i know most of the players from both communities lol

Bastard games should be a thing.
As long as they label them as such.
this i agree with

players also need to be held accountable for their choices in signing up for these games. if the host is clear with their intent and states it's a bastard game and someone signs up anyway, that's on them

but if this community decides that they don't want to encourage or possibly prohibit bastard setups, we can just try this at a later time. i want people to be open and willing to experiment rather than cut itself off from other mafia cultures if referalls to here is spread around beyond you guys etc etx

i wanted to do this
lol

but i actually wanted to try hosting a monthly player mafia. that way i can see if it gains any traction or interest

if so, then i know that interest is going to be consistent and the annual version of the game will have high attendance

Just as an FYI.
Sig is BFF with lord tentai and he blacklisted the website where these guys come from in his discord page.
I w/o knowing posted a game invite.
They removed it. I said fine.
Then he perma banned me for saying that I would PM my friends there anyways.
Called it "undermining server rules" lol.
My point is.
That guy has a bias going into this.
Lord Tentai quit this forum already or something

As advisor I volunteer to review set ups by new hosts if need be, to help with balancing and such and make sure games have a consistent quality while also encouraging new people to host
How the fuck did you become an advisor?

Also, can games please not have thirty second wait time between making posts? NF is heaven for rapid fire posts.
