i was pretty sure his point was that the writer can have anyone they want win a fight as long as they can give a reason that isnt BULLSHIT
but smartasses on the internet use it to say "it doesnt matter no one cares because WHOEVER THE WRITER WANTS TO WIN WINS!!!!"
if a writer just randomly decides to have whoever they want win a fight, even one they shouldnt be able to win, people would rightfully call bullshit
it annoys me because it just to me says that "writers can do whatever they want" which on one hand, yes, but also they have an obligation, i dare say a responsibility to adhere to the rules of their own universe, or if to change them to set up said change
if writers just fuck around with the setting on a whim because "they are the writer" you get pure slop
when its other writers fucking around with the setting because "they are the writer" you get to see the entire setting crash in a train wreck
it also annoys me because its just a thought terminating statement, like its only used to shut down the very idea of the discussion
