Looks like Uryu's going to be the one to defeat Shutara. Presumably they're going to reveal both A schrifts at the same time. Just give Ukitake SOMETHING before he bites it, that's all I ask. And if Aizen MUST show up, at least have him do more.

9/10 for both episodes. The Zero Division live up to their hype, while also letting the Elite Nazis show off their abilities, the Auswalen scene was well done and Ichibei vs Mustache was pretty damn good for being as short as it was. I'm not sure why they decided to end on a cliffhanger, unless for whatever reason they believe people are rooting against the Zero Division at this point. I can assure on my front, that's definitely not the case. If anything, the more I see of the Zero Division, the more apparent it becomes how much more interesting and likable they are, both as characters and as villains than the Nazis so still rooting for them (even though I know they aren't going to win). I did like the reminder that Urahara is willing to do whatever it takes to see victory here, just like my boy Shunsui even if I do wish I could grab him and prevent him from going where I believe he's going. This arc already has one shitty villain dragging it down, it doesn't need the other...

8/10 Genuinely a very good episode, I liked it. It doesn't make Mustache a good character, but the flashback with ichibei does a much better job of establishing his motivations and end goal for the invasion than the manga ever did and continues to push the more sinister side to ichibei. It also gives a MUCH better reason fro Mustache not having The Almighty until this point as it was literally stripped from him. Squad Zero going ham on the Elites was still nice. Askin was STILL the only one who reacted to Oetsu at all, moving back to avoid the slash (at least enough to survive it) and it was to actually see another application for The Antithesis in the Sasuke Rinnegan-esque trick. Overall it was just a very enjoyable watch. Also I feel the need to point out but when we cut to Renji, Rukia and Bazz, Renji was STILL in Bankai (and poised to attack) and Bazz was in Vollstanding (which he wasn't in before). :maybe "Re..Renji totally only used Bankai to protect Rukia from the debris...

6/10 A great first half is kind of let down by the Pepe shit but still good overall. The fact even a weakened Zombie Hitsugaya pretty much kills Mayuri instantly the second he goes Bankai every time is pretty telling of how insanely Hitsugaya is at this point. Never mind Mayuri needing the auto-react sensor so as to not get shredded by base/Shikai Hitsugaya. Was fun watching the death of any notion of Robert only being an "average Sternritter" and somehow "weaker than the Femritters" as he forced Byakuya into Bankai while the Femritters didn't even want to fight him without Pepe. Still would like to know his schrift but the odds of that happening are pretty slim at this point. Now we need to see what they do with Division 0.

6/10 It was pretty good, honestly better than I was expecting given how much this part of the manga seems to get shit on. Ikkaku and Yumichika vs Zombie Bambi does a good job of emphasizing how much weaker the zombies are than their living versions, which makes Hitsugaya seem all the more impressive as even his weaker zombie version was deemed an issue by Mayuri. And I'm also really glad they didn't show Bambietta's death scene 'cause it's just gratuitous and unnecessary. Especially when what is there already is disturbing enough. It's even funnier that people would defend Giselle when if anything, he SMILES when Yumichika reveals it, it's not like it bothered him to have it revealed. Hoping for more Renji and Rukia vs Bazz and more of Byakuya's fight with the five Nazis but i'm not sure we'll get it.

Yeah the fact that they've done this much of arc so quickly makes it all the more likely that they're going to re-work what's left, since there isn't really enough material for 2 more cours if they're just adapting it straight up

7/10 Ichigo got to show his power by humiliating the Nazis, to the point they couldn't even do anything even when he was tunnel visioned on Mustache. :mjha Also basically confirms Skaverei can't be used on opponent's much stronger than the user as if that were an option, the Nazis absoutely would have done it here. :maybe I enjoyed the exchange with Uryu and most importantly, ma boy CHAD getting top tier feats, now he just needs a fucking on-screen fight (and a re-write to his ending so it doesn't shit on his entire character) and I'll be a happy man.

4/10 The faster pace actually did help the fight a lot, I didn't hate watching it. BUT it's still a boring one-sided thrashing of Kenpachi just tanking everything and Gremmy inevitably killing himself due to being one of the shittiest reality warpers I've ever seen. Taking out Askin and Haschwalth's reactions was a good call, it leads to fewer misunderstandings from people who genuinely use those reactions to "prove" Gremmy (and therefore Base/Shikai Kenpachi) is stronger than them, despite both being the type to overreact to things (one of them very deliberately so). So yeah it wasn't the worst episode in this arc or this cour, but that isn't really saying much.

8/10 Best episode of this cour and it's not even close, only let down as I said by the stupid execution still happening and Byakuya's interference. Only Yamamoto vs Royd and Ichigo vs Mustache top this and I can't see that changing since it really is all down hill from here. Rukia's Bankai looked stunning as expected, although I really would have rathered they not have the ending them playing over it. You could have the ending credits but just pick a different theme like the one that was playing while she was thawing. As Nodt's voice actor once again put the fucking work in and I did like how absolutely insane he sounded once he used Vollstanding. Almost like he was screaming every line, the english VA gonna have to put the work in to match this performance. Kenpachi vs Gremmy next, well that's a dud. Not only one of the worst fights in this arc but one of the worst fights in this series. It's only not going to be the worst episode of this cour because Discount Tousen was a thing.

5/10 It was okay, not particularly good and not particularly bad At least this fight is a little back and forth with the Lieutenant and Kensei portion, the Renji portion was always one-sided so there was only so much they could do with it. It doesn't help that this is the second episode in a row where one of the coolest looking Bankai in the series is replaced with a way worse design. But hey, Nazi gets incinerated BY A SOUL REAPER and that's always going to be a plus, rather than watching the stupid fuckers killing each other off or being killed by their own dumbass boss. :maybe

3/10 It was about as bad as I expected, Nanao-chan keeping Haschwalth at bay and the last Ichigo scene gave it a couple points. The only thing I feel like a "winner" about is the Clan Elder specifying that the ritual "grants immense power", confirming once and for all that Discount Tosen is indeed MUCH stronger than Sajin Komamura on top of being immortal. Now we're only two, maybe three episodes away from the real highlight of this arc, but at least we're passed the absolute worst part of it (still bad shit to come, just nothing as bad as this).

5/10 It does some good things, it does some bad things and the end result is just kind of meh The Bankai retrieval scene is good but BG9 not revealing his schrift and neither actually being killed by Soi Fon or Toshiro is crap, 'cause it means we're sticking to the stupid team kill for no reason. Shinji showing off his Bankai and getting to troll Bambietta for a bit longer is nice and cool and all, but it's spoiled by Discount Tosen showing up even momentarily and Vollstanding still looks lame with only a couple exceptions. Ichigo finding out about the Soul King's past would pretty much necessitate a massive change to the ending as there's no way Ichigo's going to be okay with that shit.

Yeah I don't want him just getting lolexecuted, in fact if the team kills on the part of the Nazis could be kept to a minimum, it would go a fare way towards salvaging something here. Especially if Soi Fon isn't gonna get to do anything else, then just have her be the one that kills him. Yeah hopefully the fight just continues post-Bankai retrieval and he gets it shown before he goes down.

Yeah that's a good change, having the sister get hurt is needless given how the scene plays out and this way Omaeda gets a few points as a character. Now if they wouldn't mind changing it so that Soi Fon actually sends that useless Nazi sack of crap tin to the scrap heap (preferably after a schrift reveal) for even thinking about hurting that little girl, that would be nice. :maybe

7/10 better than last week's episode for sure. I do kind of have to admit that I never looked up Soi Fon vs BG9 so I never actually saw the stuff with Omaeda and his sister. Which I thought was super nice and that extra point was largely won by the big guy's giga chad moment of taking the strike for his sister, good on ya Omaeda. Now if only this was on a character who mattered more in the grand scheme of things. Bazz vs Toshiro went about as well as it could have done and now I want to see BG9 get wrecked for even thinking about threatening the sister. Unfortunately HE (having already assassinated and buried his much better cousin off-screen) is either going to show up at the end of the next episode or the start of the one after (especially with Bambietta giving the preview line). Either way that 0/10 episode is 2 weeks away at most at this rate. WHAT? 😡

Episode was a 6/10, not as good as last season's opener, but what can you do when the episode's all dialogue and establishing people training without actually showing any of it. Still waiting on that explanation for how Uryu survived Auswalen, since they only teased it here and Bazz B's reaction STILL doesn't make a lick of sense give his backstory and true motivation for being there in the first place. At least we have Ichibei confirming no mere Soul Reaper can defeat Mustache (at least present Mustache anyway), almost certainly confirming himself as transcendent as well.

Hey I went into Cour 1 with the same pessimistic expectations and ended up enjoying it far more than I thought I would. :maybe It's just made worse here because I because of the Komamura shit and several elements of this cour being not so great to say the least.

Shinji's Bankai confirmed to appear in the anime? That's neat I guess. Gives it SOMETHING at least, even if Rukia's Bankai will still inevitably be the highlight of this section of the arc. Probably not gonna be enough to save it, especially with at least one actual 0/10 episode already being confirmed (it's in the trailer after all) but we have to take what we can get. :maybe

Jap VA was going for a quieter psychopathy with Unohana, portraying it as being below the surface of the illusion of sanity. The English VA simply went went for a more open approach to her psychopathy, letting it out clear for all to hear. I don't necessarily think one is better or more fitting than the other in general. Although for this specific fight where she is supposed be showing her true self, the English VA has the better idea I think. Both good in their own ways though. Still not really sold on Seitz as Kenpachi, I really liked the Jiraia VA's take on Kenpachi and Seitz just isn't as good IMO. He's a great voice actor, works perfect for Scorpion but therein lies the problem. He's better for characters that carry a lot of anger or hatred, which isn't really Kenpachi if you get what I mean.
