While my knowledge of the rest of the arc keeps me from watching it, these clips are reminding me how hype this arc originally was. People actually dying, Ywach being a threat and not an Almighty Inkblob, good shit :dankpepe

Nah, the mythical Odin legit looked like a thin, lanky old man who walked around in an old cloak and big hat. He looked like (and I think actually inspired) Gandalf the Grey in his time in the Shire. And like Gandalf the Grey he'd suddenly go giga-badass after pretending to be an old man :skully Also about Ragnarok, what isn't always apparent in most modern telling is that Ragnarok is not like Armageddon, in that it's the end of all things. In the original myths Ragnarok was the last part of repeating cycle that led back to the beginning with Ymir. Hell, I think meta-textually it was symbolic of the seasons, with Ragnarok being the end of winter.

Or they could have muddied the waters on which side was "bad", to further contrast Kratos' former black and white world view. Would have been pretty easy as well, just make it so the giants have a different sense of morality because they're elemental beings or some shit. Odin and Thor oppose Kratos because he has a half-giant son and kills gods, but their goals were the protection of both Asgard and the humans/races of their realms. The giants want their world back and the destruction of the gods they see as evil. Kratos and Atreus get torn between the two sides and eventually resolve to stop the conflict and avert Ragnarok. Hell, that way you still get to fight both sides, and the final battle could be Kratos forcing Surtr and Odin to fight him together to protect their respective peoples. Use his pantheon-killing rep to save one instead.

Odin was never the archetypal "god-king" in his own myths. GoW arguably did a decent job of portraying his appearance and even methodology, they just also made him an absolute shitter with no reason beyond his desire for knowledge apparently being a super bad thing that corrupts people I'm still mad about that choice, tbh. Making the Norse gods assholes like the Greek gods feels like such an enormous waste. Kratos' redemption arc could have been handled better if he had actual good examples to base himself off of.

That was part of it, but the way Supes just went after the Hulk right away was weird. Especially when Hulk tried to run away from the fight immediately and Supes whacks him back towards the soldiers

I'm not really a fan of the way he's handling Superman as a character but damn if this isn't some great fight choreography.

I'm still mad that Odin ended up just being evil. I was hoping they'd play up the cyclical nature of Ragnarok like Odin was the only one aware of a time loop and he'd been deliberately distorting things in a last ditch effort to break free. Could have had it where he was deliberately antagonizing Kratos because the Ghost of Sparta could kill him for real and break the rest of his pantheon free of the cycle, making the whole thing a giant sacrifice gambit

Very much so, the fact that they haven't nerfed Kiyomaru in either personality or skill is extremely encouraging for its future
