So Santa Monica Studios released an article showcasing tons of character and concept art for God of War: Ragnarok (and plan to make a second one with environmental art and lighting). https://magazine.artstation.com/2023/02/santa-monica-studio-god-of-war-ragnarok-art-blast/?sf174876318=1 Of note, it includes this picture of the war of Ragnarok (showing huge boulders bigger than dragons being uprooted), and seems to show several realms at the same time.

A few more notes from Ragnarok... Several Einjarhar (as well as the true Tyr) are able to survive the destruction of Asgard, and land with the fragments in the surviving eight realms.
They say that you can reach the equivilant of Egypt if you keep walking, so said dimensions are bigger than Scandinavia, though they seem to refer to the realms as being the parts which overlap Scandinavia as being the Nine Realms. The issue is that as it's based off mythology and a lot of old time cosmologies were a lot different to modern times (sometimes much smaller, though in some cases they were still vast if not outright infinite). Basically (from what I'm reading of this), each Realm is the size of Scandinavia (at minimum), but the dimensions these Realms exist in are bigger.

Now to look into the Realms some more (borrowing some from Niers post). If you walked in one Realm to the equivilant of Egypt, you could reach it, as each is it's own dimension. https://ytcropper.com/cropped/5k5c47d448b0970 Midgard is Skandinavia on Earth, while the other Realms are parallel dimensions that overlap the same physical space. The different pantheons of different lands have different powers over their own segment of the world, and have power over their own 'universe' (though the universe as a whole hasn't been explored yet). Each of the Nine realms has its own outer space. So the Realm of Midgard is the size of Skandinavia, though each dimension expands beyond just the size of Skandinavia. The Asgardian Pantheon would at the very least scale to the area of Skandinavia in each at minimum. Make of this all what you will.

We reach some more big end game stuff... The Spark of the World is where Musphelheim and Niflheim meet in Ginnungagap, where the first of the Realms where born. The Spark of the World is a vast cosmic expanse where two primordial realms meet filled with flames and ie. Surtr merges with the flames of the Chaos Blades and becomes Ragnarok, a realm destroying Fire Giant. Freyr is able to temporarily hold bak Ragnarok's blade, and Atreus is hit by the explosion which destroys Asgard and survives (abet he is knocked unconsious). This explosion sends fragments of Asgard flying into the other realms (keep in mind that each realm exists in it's own dimension).
And with that, I have finished the main story of Ragnarok! I still have some post-story sidequests to play, but that is the big story done.

More from my God of War: Ragnarok playthrough. The Stags of the Four Seasons are theorized to have evolved from the primordial dwarves who embodied the winds. The Mask contains (or is the key to) infinite knowledge. The reason why Thor doesn't fly Atreus everywhere is because he doesn't want to. In Niflheim, we see the bones of some massive creature. Sigrun is desribed as being the most lethal enemy faced by Kratos & Atreus in their prior adventures. Slaghorn likes burrowing underground. Draupnir is desribed as being able to duplicate itself an infinite number of times. The Rond of the Nine Realms can cause time to shift as it contains sap from Yggdrasil. Travellers are sent to explore the Nine Realms and beyond. Yggdrasil is implied to hav a will of its own by Ratotoskr, who was on an ordinary squirrel. Kratos and Thors' clash created a considerable crater of ice. There is a Realm Tear where you fought Thor the first time
God of War Discussion, Lore, Feats, & Analysis Thread

More God of War: Ragnarok feats... Th Emblem of the Nine Ralms empowers those capable of shifting realms. In the crater in Vanaheim there is a frozen lightning bolt similar to the one created by Thor and Kratos in their clash. Something happened in this valley which caused it to explode. One of the victims of this calamity which destroyed the valley had his spirit torn in two, and you have to fix him. Gjallarhorn harmonizes the space between all Nine Realms if blown by a god, and if blown in Tyrs Temple it can connect all gateways at once. The Stags of the Four Seasons are mystic creatures who live in the Realm Between Realms feeding on Yggdrasil. The Stags of the Four Seasons help keep Yggdrasil in check and prevent overgrowth (which could lead to the collapse of the Nine Realms if its branches get too heavy).
@Papa Nier @Astaro @Claudio Swiss Let's get a consensus; what's happening when Skoll & Hati chase the Sun & Moon?
  9. Stocking Anarchy

God of War Discussion, Lore, Feats, & Analysis Thread

Now we finally reach a point of considerable hype and wonky cosmology. When the Moon is released from its magical box, it returns to the sky in it's full form (also noticably growing bigger). The Moon flies into the sky and returns to its normal size and causes an eclipse. Atreus shoots at the eclipse with a special arrow, and Skoll chases after the Sun, turning day into night. This kicks off Ragnarok. Skoll is much smaller than the Moon (despite the Moon in its trapped state being smaller than Atreus who was dwarved by Hati and Skoll). Hati bestows Kratos & Atreus with an artefact that will let them summon Skoll and Hati to change night to day or vice versa at celestial shrines. An example of this in action (this also causes certain trees and plantlife to shift incredibly). Whenever an Einjarhar is killed, they return to Valhalla to continue training and fighting.
10. Stocking Anarchy

God of War Discussion, Lore, Feats, & Analysis Thread

Some quite impressive feats and a whole ton of hype. Atreus accidentally put Fenrir's soul into his knife. As Garm doesn't have a soul (and therefore can't be killed), Atreus put Fenrirs soul inside Garm. They succeed, and when Fenrir is told to go home, he opens a giant portal to go (to what I assume is) Kratos & Atreus' home in Midgard (he also seems to do this by ripping the fabric of space with his claws). Hraesvelgr is the current Hel, and there have been at least nine other beings with this title before her (her titles also include Swallower of the Dead and Author of the Winds). Hraesvelgr says there are six realm tears to close, and says not to expect thanks (as this is Atreus's fault which he must fix). The Mask wasn't made by the giants, and suspected it was a way to gaze into the secrets of Creation itself. It's also the key to becoming one with a source of infinite knowledge.
Also some thoughts on Ymir...
  12. Stocking Anarchy

God of War Discussion, Lore, Feats, & Analysis Thread

(...Continued from above.) Odin says that after he slew Ymir, he looked inside the rift (the possible birthplace of reality) and saw something looking back. He heard things he could not comprehend but knew where true. He thought he would never see inside it again, until he saw the mask. Not knowing what it's capable of, Atreus and Thrud free Garm, who is capable of chewing through the fabric of the Nine Realms, and can chew holes between realms. Odin says that they are safe from Garm in Asgard, but the other realms are not safe from the chaos that will ensue (and has already begun). Garm damages the fabric of the realms to the extent that realm tears even appear outside Brok & Sindri's home. Garm will munch through the fabric of the realms, and that Hel-Walkers would be just the beginning.
God of War Discussion, Lore, Feats, & Analysis Thread

My playthrough of Ragnarok continues... The parts of your mind that the Norns make you see are also real. The Norns can seemingly open realm tears. Kelpies are water horses. In Mimir's lands, they tell children to stay away from the lochs incase a kelpie drags them underwater, whereas a kelpie would only do that if it's disrespected (this would also imply some kind of connection between the Norse and Celtic pantheons/mythos). Kelpie's can walk on water (and swim under the water). Kratos says he has killed gods greater than Heimdal, which Mimir doesn't doubt. With Nidhogg dead, her young have spread out across the Nine Realms, and if left unattended they could devour the Nine Realms entirely. As such, you have to bring them back to Ratatskor for him to raise (you capture them in a special device Ratatskor gives you). Dwarven magic is about the intangibles, and how the nature of something is more important than its form. The Lady's forge is a forge of nature rather than of...

God of War Discussion, Lore, Feats, & Analysis Thread

A few more notes... Odin can use a storm of ravens to teleport himself and others to different locations, including between realms. Huginn and Muninn can turn into Odin's tattoos. Gjallarhorn allows for travel between any number of realms simultaneously, not just connecting two realms like all other known methods.
God of War Discussion, Lore, Feats, & Analysis Thread

Continued from above, with some more very noteworthy stuff indeed... The Shatter Star Shield bathed in the light of a thousand dying stars and is a force of the cosmos. This interestingly enough, let's us know some more on the nature of the stars (there are dying stars, though if these stars are giant balls of plasma & gas or something else entirely is still unclear). The Glaive of Dodher is said to be able to cut through any surface and is synonymous with death. Nidhogg can open tears in the fabric of space, which she does whenever she needs to appear somewhere the roots of Yggdrasil are under threat (Odin uses this to his advantage to protect things, such as the curse binding Freya). Nidhogg draws in energy into her stomach to attack. Nidhogg can open realm tears at will to attack through them. Wisps are powerful manifestations of runic magic. They are impervious to physical attacks unless hit with a special kind of magic. Freya used to be able to remember the faces...

I haven't played the original GOW trilogy, but I remember hearing Kratos had a boost to fight Zeus (Power of Hope). So IMO it should be something like Power of Hope Kratos >/= Zeus > Old Kratos > Baldur > Young Kratos. With that said, more from my God of War Ragnarok playthrough, with some big stuff to say to y'all... Atreus is stabbed by a memory of himself from the past. The trees of the Ironwood store memories of the past and the future. Odin destroyed Ymir to make the world long ago, but one part of Ymir remains; his dreams, which are the Utangard (the Utanard is where the giants true prophecies are kept, and how Atreus ended up in Ironwood). Atreus has a soul in his knife (which Angrboda is able to detect). Angrboda's wards keep out wild animals, but would not work against the Aesir. Angrboda's grandmother Grylaahas a cauldron which she uses to cook and consume the souls of animals. Angrboda tells Atreus to return home by saying home, but he returns to his home in...

God of War Discussion, Lore, Feats, & Analysis Thread

We really getting into this discussion? Oh dear... Remember you started this. :smugnon The biggest one I know would be Thor and Jormungar fighting shaking the Nine Realms and splintering Yggdrasil (each realm being in its own plane of existence with its own timeflow). Baldur hurts Jormungar at the end of GoW4, and Kratos kills Baldur. The issue I think is the size of each realm, as GoW seems to have a lot of basis of ancient world models (like the Greek World being flat). Even with that said though, there are at least two statements of the cosmos being infinite (infinite sky from one of the novels and the developer comment of there being infinite distance visible in the underworld). Even in several models of ancient cosmologies where the Earth is geocentric or flat, the concept of infinite space can still exist (and this is something I myself have lots of experience with, having done TES lore for years). For the Greek games, it would depend if Kratos scales to any gods who...

God of War Discussion, Lore, Feats, & Analysis Thread

From the Art of God of War (the fourth one). Yggdrasil is the tree which grows out of the Lake of Nine and connects the different worlds, and can be used to travel between realms. The artists had to give a physical form to these non-physical objects (regarding both Yggdrasil and the Lake of Nine). Mimir is a god of immense wisdom. Being too valuable to kill, Odin kept him prisoner and enchanted his mind and eyesso that he can never lie (which means all the stories he tells are the truth). The temple of light in Alfheim represents birth and rebirth. An idea for the Temple of Light in Alfheim was that it was where the souls of beings waiting to be born across the Nine Realms waited, and because of the Dark Elf invasion of the temple there were many more stillbirths during that time. Skoll and Hati are the two wolves who chase the Sun and moon around endlessly (this will be important for Ragnarok). The gods of the Norse Pantheon take on smaller aspects than appeared in previous...

God of War Discussion, Lore, Feats, & Analysis Thread

More feats and lore from Ragnarok (beware spoilers once again)... Freyr had the power to heal the land and calm its peoples. Hafgufa's are colossal jellyfish-like creatures found in Alfheim. Sometimes the creatures get stuck underground because of the dark elves hive matter trapping them. Hafgufa's burrow underground, which allowed them to become trapped by the dark elves hive matter. The hafgufa is causing the sandstorms by singing the Song of Sands. When the hafgufa is freed, it flies into the sky easily (which would show that the hive matter is harder to break through than sand and rock for these creatures), and the sandstorm aboveground ceases, as the creature is content. There is another sandstorm, which would mean another hafgufa is trapped underground (although I can't access that area yet, so I'll get back to you on that one). The poem "Celestial Construct" refers to a new dimension. Make of it what you will. You fight the exact same draugr in at least two seperate...

God of War Discussion, Lore, Feats, & Analysis Thread

My playthrough continues, and thus more to share with you all (of course, be aware of spoilers)... Ratatoskr is the squirrel who tends the branches of Yggdrasil, and has several spectral aspects. Niflheim is an ancient realm. Tyr has been to the Western Lands, where he picked up the idea for a dream charm to absorb nightmares (this is quite similar to a dream catcher, which implies that Tyr has been to America, as the ancient vikings did). Freyr used his divine powers to settle peace between the light elves and the dark elves. Light elves and dark elves were once the same race, before they discovered the power of light. Fimbulwinter is affecting the Lake of Souls, causing it to become volatile. The Lake of Souls is a place of birth and rebirth, where souls gather waiting to be born. After the creation of the Nine Realms, souls began to gather in this lake. When the elves discovered the power of the Lake of Souls, they built the temple to harness it's power, though many...
