Ballot Banter #40 Recap
Batman VS Diluc (Dark Knights of Steel VS Genshin Impact)- As Sam notes, and John elaborates on, Diluc used to be a vigilante similar to Batman. Liam says he wants Batman to beat the shit out of Diluc, but the others say he probably wouldn’t win unless he gets the Hellbat or something similar (they don’t seem to realize the MU isn’t using the main DCU Batman).

Demitri VS Slayer (Darkstalkers VS Guilty Gear)- They all think it’s really cool. Liam likes Slayer because he’s canonically one of the strongest Guilty Gear characters and, as such, his losing animation just has him sitting down bored.

Gohan VS Shiny Chariot (Dragon Ball VS Little Witch Academia)- Liam says “We’ve been looking for that perfect Gohan matchup”. John responds “We’re still looking”. None of them know anything about LWA.

Samus Aran VS Master Chief (Metroid VS Halo)- Sam initially thinks that they’ve done it already, only to be corrected (he was thinking of Samus VS Boba Fett). Liam and John say they like it. Sam says Samus stomps, which everyone else agrees with. Sam still says it’s fun, and he’s willing to do anything to bring Samus back.

Kurumi Tokisaki VS Homura Akemi (Date A Live VS Puella Magi Madoka Magica)- They still don’t know anything about Date A Live, and move on after briefly trying to piece together what they remember about it from previous banters.

(They skip past Scott the Woz VS Scott Pilgrim)

Jonesy VS Booster Gold (Fortnite VS DC)- Sam says it’s the best MU for Jonesy from his understanding. Erin talks about “having to reconcile with the fact that Fortnite has a plot”. Sam admits they’re “shackled” to eventually doing a Fortnite episode, even though none of them are into the game. Liam and John love Booster and would like to bring him back (Liam is proud that Cable VS Booster Gold made a lot of people fans of Booster). Sam thinks the idea of Booster getting a second episode before dozens of other characters get one would be weird, but does say Booster VS Jonesy has a decent shot.

N VS Blade Wolf (Murder Drones VS Metal Gear Rising)- They don’t know Murder Drones. Liam says Blade Wolf is cool, and Sam says the MU seems fun. Erin likes the clashing of aesthetics (the others agree) and wonders if they would try to make them match in the fight animation or keep the contrast.

Gohan VS Ultraman Zero (Dragon Ball VS Ultraman)- Liam says “apparently this is actually a really good Gohan matchup”. John agrees and says he likes it. Liam notes it’s been making the rounds in the community because Gohan obviously stomps Invincible, with John adding that Gohan VS Superboy would just be a rehash of Goku VS Superman. Sam is surprised that they’ve never done Gohan (or Piccolo). Liam jokingly says they should have Grandpa Gohan in DB before Son Gohan.

Arle Nadja VS Reimu Hakurei (Puyo Puyo VS Touhou)- After more laughing over Schezo Wegey’s name, Sam says the connections seem strong. He also notes that the female vs. female episodes tend to be the worst performing episodes of a given season, which he chalks up to the average viewer who only watches a few episodes a season.

Vigil VS Crypto (Rainbow Six Siege VS Apex Legends)- Sam says that Vigil is just a special forces guy, and Crypto is a futuristic character with superpowers, so Crypto probably stomps. Liam has never played Rainbow Six Siege, but says he wants to, and Sam sings its praised in response.

Caesar VS Blue (Planet of the Apes VS Jurassic World)- They laugh at the concept of an ape vs. a velociraptor. Sam has never seen any of the Jurassic Park/World movies. Liam asks if Caesar has guns. John responds that he doesn’t remember, but he thinks it’s funnier if he doesn’t get weapons and it’s just a fistfight. Erin says that, unless Caesar gets a gun, Blue just tears him to shreds. Sam starts arguing that Caesar could win if he climbed into a tree and played keep-away. After some further debate, John says it could go either way depending on the circumstances.

Bedman VS The Collector (Guilty Gear VS The Owl House)- Liam explains Bedman, and Erin explains the Collector. Afterwards, Sam says it makes sense and seems pretty cool.

Invincible VS Rodimus Prime (Invincible VS Transformers)- Liam calls it “the other half of Gohan VS Ultraman Zero”, saying it’s more appropriate and closer than Gohan VS Invincible. The topic of how Transformers reproduce comes up somehow.

Freddy Krueger VS Pennywise (A Nightmare on Elm Street VS IT)- Glossed over because it’s been talked about a lot. “People really like it. It’s something. One of these years when we’re feeling like getting really spooky, I think this one’s a winner”.

Noctis VS Charlemagne (Final Fantasy VS Fate)- John says that they have a lot in common and it makes sense. Erin and Sam both like FFXV (though Sam says it only gets good in the second half).

Captain Pollution VS Captain Fray (Captain Planet VS Monica’s Gang)- They don’t have anything to say about it, other than that they’re both gross. Sam jokes “I couldn’t think of any other Captain Pollution matchups, so I think you’ve done a good job just bringing this one out of the garage”.

Coach Boomer VS Present Mic (Sky High VS My Hero Academia)- Sam doesn’t know anything about Sky High. John explains Boomer’s powers. Liam tells a story about visiting the set of Sky High when he was eight years old.

First matchup for the next Ballot Banter is Clover VS Nemesis (Cloverfield VS The Nemesis Saga).
