Thoughts on the matches to come, hype-wise
Among Us vs Fall Guys : No interest in this one, my knowledge is that these were two games that saw their 15 minutes of fame, got a ton of video-game streamers to hop on the bandwagon, then we kind of moved on. My main issue is from what I've seen all of the characters in the game are basically just faceless NPC's with no defining quality and if that's the case then it's hard to be hyped, but Bowser vs Eggman overdelivered so I'm okay following it with a breather.
Light vs Columbo : Very curious how this one will be done, there's not much in the way of action, but this has potential to be the best episode in terms of pure narrative since the narrative is the entire battle between them. This is a sleeper hype episode for me, but the question remains if it can top that other version that was posted here a while back.
Tom vs Coyote : I could see this one surpassing Scooby vs Courage in terms of wacky cartoon hijinx and hilarity. Tom and Coyote both lean far more into brutal slapstick and there are a ton of jokes they could do pitting them against one-another. I grew up on these cartoons, so I have hype for this battle and seeing how much Coyote self-sabotages in the match.
Kratos vs Asura : Cautiously optimistic about this one, I've been anxious to see Asura in a Death Battle for while and the teaser did a lot to sell me, but I question how they will allow Asura to cut loose and be as over the top as in his game while having it make sense against Kratos who is nowhere near as exaggerated in his game's action sequence. I assume they'll be able to make it work.
Master Chief vs Doomguy : Halo 2 was one of my favorite games when I was younger, loved the original trilogy. A bit sad knowing my boy MC is cooked, but he'll have to be presented as the "protagonist" of the fight against his berserker opponent, so I'm expecting a cool fight that will pay him respect. This also has potential to be one of Death Battle's greatest soundtracks if they combine elements of Martin O'Donnel and Mick Gordon.
Mahito vs Shigaraki : Not too familiar with either series or these characters, so no real hype here for me.
Ash vs Yugi : A ton of potential here for the animation if they follow suit of Bowser vs Eggman and just have their Pokemon and Monsters out in play at once. It's really an easy lay-up for a battle and I'd be surprised if they found a way to not make this one interesting.
Aang vs Traveler : Love ATLA, but the franchise has a horrible track-record when it comes to delivering good Death Battle episodes, so I'm not particularly excited to see Aang return and I'm not familiar with his opponent. Expectations are low, but hopefully this is the one that finally redeems and gives ATLA a good memorable episode.
Simon vs White Lantern : One of those major grand-scale cosmic clashes, but I'm more hype for this one because Simon really leans into the over-the-top nature of that and White Lantern is an excellent opponent to put that against. Leaning Kyle, but I'm excited to see what they do with this and wont be salty either way.
Ruby vs Maka : Don't have any real care for these characters, and I haven't particularly enjoyed any of the RWBY episodes, so this is low on the hype for me.
Hulk vs Godzilla : I'm just hyped to see Godzilla again mostly, and what they can do with him at their modern quality. Not sure what he'll do against the Hulk, but it should be a fun and destructive slobberknocker.
Gru vs Megamind : Should be a fun match, hopefully in 3D animation. I'm rooting for Megamind mainly because I find the Minions to be annoying and haven't loved Illumination films, but I'm expecting this to have some potential as a show-stealer if they handle it right.
