Super has it's fair share of problems but people start going off the deep end with the hate
The internal logic is hard to defend, suddenly you can just wish to be the strongest ever. If it takes itself seriously (and it does) then it needs some semblance of stakes.

I was with everyone on FV when it came out, waiting with bated breath for every new episode, watching it with everyone.

I tried, I really did to like it. It doesn't work.

The new garbage cgi animation looks like cheap trash, because it is. The hand animated style was grittier, harsher, and fit the more serious tone that esp the Funimation dub of Z had.

Goku has rapidly regressed. I realize that Western Z Goku wasn't what Tori wanted... but too bad it's what we got and if Super Goku is what he wanted then Z was in better hands away from him having full creative control for every decision. Goku was smart, he even makes small comments here and there about things you wouldn't have expected someone with no education to be able to figure out. That's really nice because it shows in the DB to Z timeskip he wasn't JUST training.
Super Goku is exactly as Vegeta always described him, a clown.

Then there's Vegeta. While I like some of his development he's lost a lot of his edge, his intensity. He does a LOT of out of character things and it almost feels like he's an actor playing Vegeta. If this was Z, Vegeta would have told Beerus he didn't need him and would have found a way forward by himself. He never would have allowed anyone to trample on his dignity, expecially not to catch up to Goku. I realize that this is supposed to be a sort of development for him but I can't say I like it. It's too different from the Vegeta we spent most of our time with.

I won't even speak about what they did to Gohan.

The plot pacing is god awful, half of it is shitty slice of life and mediocre jokes. The only anime I felt wasted my time more with pointless bullshit was Boruto. There's no suspense, no intensity, no fucking stakes. It's weak and unexciting. Flaccid.

The animation remains basic. It's par for the course for modern anime which shouldn't be a good measuring stick considering how shitty anime is getting with more of them relying on computers than their own hands.

The villains are garbage. An asspull cat god who was literally fisted into the unwilling, tight, clenched ass of the story, retrofitted into Freezas history and all, a one trick pony purple Cooler looking dude, a completely bland gray rubber dogs alien chew toy, and a whiny kai with the most basic, overdone, anime trope af motivation ever.

My blood boils when I think about how they've fucked the faces of my childhood badasses until they're unrecognizable, toddler friendly troglodytes. When I recall that smug little school shooter Zamasu and how they had the sheer shitting gall to not end the fight with Vegetto blue. When I remember that fucking Trunks shot up with a power boost of god knows how much and killed an enemy that was making Goku and Vegeta struggle with the power of 10 fucking malnourished humans.

I was able to forget about Evolution because it was just some side project by out of touch, sentient, Hollywood slugs but now it remains at the forefront of my mind cause that abomination caused Toriyama to put back on his adult diapers, get out of retirement and leak the contents of his intestines onto our televisions.

Fuck Super. I hate it. I hate it more than I hate things I should hate more because they're more serious. Super cut off the Z fighters skin and is parading around in it, demanding we watch it. Vile. Despicable. Abominable. Irredeemable.

The issue with Dragon Ball Super was simple, we were hyped beyond belief that not only was a new series coming in. There hadn't been a Dragon Ball anime since GT ended back in November 1997, DBS debuted in July 2015. The surreal nature of having a new episodic installment with a brand new anime that was also CANON as Toriyama was supervising it much in the same way he supervises Toyotaro's DBS manga. The issue was because Toei is massive company that has multiple anime TV series ongoing throughout the year for every year; various new entries in PreCure, Saint Seiya specials, ONAs, OVAs, movies, money stretching into the live-action yearly new series of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, other shows like Digimon, and so forth.

A lot of this coupled with Toei's less then stellar reputation for also how they treatment their rank-and-file animators, low budget, weak production values, and essentially pushing sometimes retreads of arcs and plot points already done in Dragon Ball Z and GT also didn't help. People despised how much QUALITY there was in DBS, there was also a massive level of cognitive dissonance with a lot of treatment some of the major characters got early in DBS; particularly former lead/main characters like Gohan, Piccolo, and Krillen. Add in the flanderization of Super Saiyans, which admittingly began with Goten and Kid Trunks but was pressured and pushed even further with characters like Kale and Caulifla.

It just became a series of roller-coaster ups and downs with how DBS went in both the anime and manga. With the televised series like I mentioned, sometimes awful fight choreography (they spammed the zoom speed lines dozens of times in the Universal Survival Saga/Tournament of Power final arc) or reusing digital animation like inserting Dyspo's animated model from the exact same sequence of Hit beating on him ripped straight from Hit doing the same thing to Vegeta in the Universe 6 arc. I don't think DBS was god awful.

But ultimately the story with its anime and manga formats, had more issues and flaws then strengths. Goku himself did not feel like the same character from Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. His personality, his manners, his behavior were all toned down, glossed over, and sort of turned into this waku waku obsessed moron. The only real time I remember DBS Goku resembling DBZ Goku was during the final fights in the Future Arc when Zamasu and Goku Black were taunting him about stealing his body in the other timeline and murdering Chi-Chi and Goten and his rage in reaction to that.

I'm still intrigued by that upcoming Super Dragon Ball Heroes movie.

I think during the Universe 6 Saga and the Goku Black Saga, people were getting their hopes up over Super, although looking back, they're mediocre Sagas at the very best. It's quite sad when the common consensus is that GT is better than Super.
