It's more that the concept of every small corner of a forum needing a chat thread is kind of a relic from an era where forums were big enough to justify it
it's the equivalent to a general channel on discord, not much different than that. and it doesn't require to stay entirely on topic
it has its uses imo
for the presentation side of things, a new chat thread periodically while locking the old one gives more stats and makes the place appear more lively. not by much but it is something. guests see a date from 2021 and they'll get the impression the forum is entirely dead. it doesn't matter if there was a last post the same day they see it. which is why im putting a cap on the amount of posts (depending on the activity levels of each chat thread) and giving incentive to post more by allowing a thread title + ability to be the OP for the person who lands on the last post
