Raziel Devouring Souls
As a reaper of souls, Raziel can devour the souls of his enemies, healing himself in the process. Raziel's maw is like a vacuum, devouring souls in an area around him.

Raziel devouring spirits that are trying to escape.

Raziel grabbing and removing the soul of a creature and devouring it.

Raziel removing multiple enemies' souls simultaneously and at a distance to devour them.

Raziel does not need to weaken or kill his enemies to remove their souls. As a game mechanic (except for vampires, which explicitly have their souls deeply rooted), he can absorb the souls of creatures even if they have not suffered the slightest damage.

Raziel's Plane Shift and Immortality
Raziel can use Planar portals to travel to the Spectral Realm or the Material Realm. With their aid, Raziel can gather matter to will himself to manifest in the physical world via Material Realm. Requires no conduit to return to the Spectral Realm.

Raziel using a Planar portal to phase into the Material Realm. If Raziel suffers too many wounds or fails to feed on souls, he will return to the Spectral Realm.

Raziel is immortal. He cannot be truly be killed. If his physical form loses spirit energy which sustains him that allows him to manifest in the Material Realm, he will return to the Spectral Realm. Spiritual energy acts as his health in the game. Although, Raziel can slowly absorb the spirit energy from his surroundings and will gradually recover.

In Soul Reaver 1, if Raziel's spectral form is destroyed, he will be transported to the Abyss, where he was resurrected to regenerate.

In Soul Reaver 2, without the help of the Elder God, Raziel is still beyond death. If his spectral form is destroyed, he has some specific places with part of his soul to recover.

In the Spectral Realm, time is irrelevant regarding the Material Realm. While Raziel is in the Spectral Realm, time stops in the Material Realm.

In Defiance, the Elder God later disallows the use of Planar portals. Instead, Raziel finds he can possess corpses, even those long dead, and transform them into his own form through an effort of will.

In Defiance, even in the Spectral Realm, the Elder God confirms that he cannot kill Raziel (the Elder God can damage Raziel in the Spectral Realm) and has an army of creatures that devour souls.

Raziel's Magic Absorption
Raziel free from the Wheel of Fate and the Circle of Life and Death
Raziel is free from the Wheel of Fate, the Circle of Life and Death, and thus is no longer bound or affected by fate.

Moebius and the Elder God, they can only see the ripples of Raziel's actions, those significantly ahead or behind the event. Due to having Raziel's own soul bound to his arm, he exists in a paradoxical state, being unaffected by time paradoxes and capable of changing an otherwise immutable timeline.

Raziel's Glyphs in Soul Reaver 1
Glyphs, also known as Elemental Glyphs or Glyph Spells, were a set of environmentally sensitive spells that could be optionally gained and used by Raziel in Soul Reaver 1. Raziel began the game with a single glyph, the Shift Glyph, which allowed him to Shift into the Material Realm while standing upon a planar portal. Throughout his travels in Nosgoth, Raziel could uncover six elementally attuned altars - each altar contained a puzzle which would gift Raziel with a new Glyph spell when completed. Once he gained his first Glyph, Raziel acquired the Eldritch energy to power them.

Force Glyph: The Force Glyph could be used for Raziel to perform a telekinetic shockwave that throws enemies into hazards and potentially kill them. The projectile itself, however, caused only minor damage.

Stone Glyph: The Stone Glyph requires Raziel to point his palms downwards, and beams of light would emerge, shaking the ground violently. This caused an earthquake, stunning any nearby standing enemies. Enemies would appear petrified, and Raziel would need to strike them with the Wraith Blade, as no other weapon could do this. However, being stunned was only temporary; enemies would regain their senses swiftly afterwards.

Sound Glyph: The Sound Glyph requires Raziel to slam his hands together and an ultrasonic wave would stun all nearby vampires. This Glyph merely stunned vampires. Humans remained unaffected.

Water Glyph: Using the Water Glyph. Raziel creates two water balls in each hand while raising them above his head which creates a wave of water, engulfing all nearby enemy vampires. This Glyph couldn´t be used against any Rahabim vampires or humans.

Fire Glyph: Using the Fire Glyph, Raziel forms two small fire orbs in each hand while raising them above his head, and a giant fiery wave is sent around him, incinerating any enemies close by.

Sunlight Glyph: Using the Sunlight Glyph, Raziel raises his hands in the air with light coming from them and brings them together for a burst of sunlight, killing any vampires, although it does not do any damage to humans.

Raziel's Wall Climbing
After consuming Zephon's soul, Raziel can climb walls.
"Consuming Zephon’s apostate soul has bestowed on you a new gift. Like his vampire spawn, you are able to scale certain walls which are otherwise impassable - but only in the physical realm. In the spirit world, these insubstantial edifices will not support you." - The Elder God

Raziel climbing sheer vertical surfaces.

Raziel Swimming
After consuming Rahab's soul, Raziel is invulnerable to water which is acid to vampires.
"Infused with Rahab’s soul, you have overcome your former vulnerability to water’s touch. Immersion in water will no longer dissolve your physical body, enabling you to swim to areas heretofore beyond your reach." - The Elder God

This allows Raziel to swim.

Raziel's Constrict
After consuming Dumah's soul, Raziel can create a band of energy, which exists in the material and spectral realms simultaneously, moving immovable objects and damaging enemies.
"Consuming Dumah’s soul empowers you to wind a constricting band of spectral energy around your enemies. This energy manifests itself in both the spectral and material realms - and in the physical world, it can be employed to manipulate otherwise immovable objects." - The Elder God

Raziel using Constrict to activate a large mechanism.

Raziel's Telekinesis
After infusing with a relic, Raziel gains the ability to use compress and manipulate space or telekinesis by shooting out an orb of kinetic energy.
"This relic has infused you with the power to compress and manipulate space. As your symbiotic weapon, the Soul Reaver is also thus enhanced. You may focus and project an orb of kinetic energy to strike objects that are otherwise beyond your reach." - The Elder God

It's powerful enough to shunt several-ton blocks.

Raziel pushing around another several-ton block.

Raziel's abilities grew after devouring the soul of his brother Turel in Defiance. His telekinesis enhanced, making him a near equal to Kain regarding telekinetic abilities. No longer needing to shoot a kinetic orb.

Raziel forming a stasis field, holding enemies helpless in the air until he is ready to deal with them.

Raziel manipulating a stone pillar, smashing it into a stairwell and collapsing a floor.

Raziel tearing down a gigantic stone column, crushing another in the process.

First Generation Vampires via Ancient Vampires
1000.png

These were the original vampires of Nosgoth, blue-skinned beings with wings considered God-like beings, the most powerful generation of vampires. After a thousand-year war with the Hylden, because they did not want to submit to the god of the Ancient Vampires, the latter created the Pillars of Nosgoth, sealing the Hylden in another dimension.

Before being defeated, the Hylden put a curse on the Ancient Vampires that would affect every vampire in existence, regardless of subspecies. Vampires would be cursed with immortality (they can be killed or can commit suicide, but cannot die of old age), sterility, and would suffer from bloodlust, needing to consume blood to survive. The Ancient Vampires became extinct as they could no longer reproduce, and as they committed suicide due to their new curse, the only Ancient Vampire that remained alive was Janos Audron.

Second Generation Vampires

Although the Ancient Vampires could no longer reproduce, they could still create other vampires, passing the dark gift to humans by transforming them into vampires. Vorador was the first human to be transformed into a vampire and the first vampire in the second generation.

These new vampires are paler-skinned and wingless. The second generation of vampires were exterminated by Moebius' mercenary army, who hunted down and eliminated all the vampires (including Vorador) but one, Kain.

Third Generation Vampires
latest.png

This generation of vampires did not exist originally due to several events. Elder Kain changed the story in the past, bringing several changes. Among them, Vorador was revived after the end of Blood Omen 1 and created an army of vampires for a young Kain. Most of these vampires were killed in the battle against the Hylden Lord and the new Sarafan order, only surviving a few traitor vampires, who went over to the Hylden Lord's side and the Cabal, the vampire resistance. It is not known what happened to these vampires. Still, it is speculated that due to Kain's desire to conquer, after defeating the Hylden Lord, he exterminated these vampires, leaving only himself as the only vampire.

Fourth Generation Vampires
1000.png

Kain created the fourth and last generation of vampires. Using portions of his soul, he resurrected the six commanders of the Sarafan Order: Raziel, Turel, Dumah, Rahab, Zephon and Melchiah (who were vampire hunters), drawing back the souls of the long-dead commanders to their bodies, transforming them into his vampire sons. The lieutenants began to create vampires in the same way as Kain, and within 100 years, they conquered Nosgoth and built an empire, ruling Nosgoth for 900 years.

Due to the corruption in Kain's soul, after 1000 years, the lieutenants and their children began to devolve, transforming their bodies into deformed monsters. After another 500 years, the resurrected Wraith Raziel killed his vampire brothers and chased Kain into the past, so what happened to the other vampires is unknown afterwards.
