Yhwach: I hereby name Uryu my successor

Also Yhwach a few chapters later: Fuck it, I’ll not only keep my position but also take the Soul Kings, kill off all other Quincies besides myself, and rule over whatever remains.
I mean TBF him naming Uryu as his successor was only to get the other Nazis' eyes on him because Mustache obviously didn't trust him. The question then becoming why the fuck did you recruit him and not just kill him you moron?

Speaking of which, there better actually be an explanation for how Uryu survived Auswalen since that was one of the things Kubo specifically said would be explained in the anime.

Pretty half-assed if that’s really all there was to it. Especially since minus some discourse, it amounted to nothing until Uryu himself decided to reveal he was indeed a traitor.

I still feel Yhwach just became a different character before and after going to the Soul Palace to fight Squad 0, becoming an even worse Aizen from than on

Well I think the main point of it was building up to Uryu vs Haschwalth but if that's the case, it was still a massive let down.

The trailer (specifically the end of it) did seem to be building up the idea of Ichigo vs Uryu, so maybe they're going to get an actual fight in this, I don't know? Possibly in the climax of this cour?

I just want them to do SOMETHING with this character in an arc that's supposed to be about the race he represents.

I never liked him to begin with so I don't really notice the difference.

Before Soul King Palace, he was an unnecessarily ruthless at times but effective leader who actually fought alongside his men in the first invasion at least and seemed to have some genuinely “for the greater good” (in his mind anyway) mindset with plans for others to take his cause in case he dies before doing so.

After regaining the Almighty, he just takes on the worst of Aizen’s traits to even greater heights, becoming a thoroughly self-centered megalomaniac and a lot stupider as a result, whose goals are little more than wanting all power for himself and some vague belief of eliminating life and death afterwards that’s never touched on again until apparently the Bleach novels years later.

It was actually stated in the manga why that's the case:
Yhwach did it to see if the Sternritter was TOO Loyal to him or not and if they would actually challenge his decision.
Yhwach wants people to be loyal but he doesn't want them to be asskissers so he did that to basically fuck with him and also to basically keep a leash on Uryu as well.
It's kinda more apparent he only didn't kill Uryu because he wanted to break him and like Ichigo, force him to join no matter what.
