Started watching the Fallout TV show today. It was great, and then it was horrible. Incredibly dark and grim. The only problem is the Brotherhood of Steel. It is so, so bad. The humor doesn't actually overstay its welcome, and fits into the goofier aspects of Fallout 2 and New Vegas.
Then reveal came for Shady Sands, and it was horrible. Max survived in a fucking fridge, and is a survivor of the collapse of the NCR. And the NCR did collapse. Max even notes as such. Confirming that it got blown up, and not just Shady Sands. Not just a small retcon, but a big one.
It's heavily implied that the Brotherhood of Steel blew them to smithereens. This BOS glazing is downright spiteful of New Vegas. And that Max was just brainwashed as a child into becoming an aspirant and then eventual squire.
The BOS is retarded. The knights, or at least Titus, is a giant coward and a gun happy nut, and has Max clean his cod piece. Then threaten to string him up by his lungs. When a mutated bear attacks him, and it's not even Max's fault. Max himself isn't a good character. He is quick to betray his own knight, and leave him to die by bleeding out. Immediately.
Then he takes his place, and pretends to be him.
The aspirants and recruits act like fraternity bros too. It was so fucking weird.
They glaze the BOS, but at the same time make them idiots with guns and power armor.

There is a time and place for humor, and having Max survive in a fridge, after the death of an entire nation, is just ridiculous.
The knights are not strict and disciplined zealots who follow a code. They're giant entitled babies. How you make the BOS look so bad, but still have them be the dominant force. And not even bad as in evil, but bad as in incompetent. How the fuck are this powerful? They are likely to blow themselves up by accident.

Not only did the do the NCR dirty just to shit on New Vegas, they don't even have the decency to do the BoS right either...
At this point, I'm expecting the Enclave to return, make the new leader a Donald Trump-expy just to date the shit even further and have them be even more incompetent than the BoS are.
The answer to that is plainly simple:
The writers are absolute hacks. They don't know how to actually make a group imposing without it infringing on what they want but they also want the group to be shit because they want no one at all liking it because they don't.
It creates an infuriating hodgepodge of a mess that those even remotely enjoy literature or even watching something to hate with every fiber of their existence(Like with RWBY post-Monty's death where you have characters be written as incompetent dumbasses that are still somehow a threat because the writers want them to be seen as badguys even when it doesn't show at all like with Adam).
They already did. An Enclave remnant is working on technology that might change the world, and he goes rogue and escapes. Lucy ends up seeking him out to find her missing father. Since of course they are going to rehash Fallout 3. Lucy is great actually. Not a prude or a girl boss. Actually cute, and really nice. The problem is the world is fucking grim dark, and her compassion backfires most of the time. She loses a lot, but her struggles make you cheer for her.
The Ghoul is another great character. He is actually played completely seriously, and both his backstory as a Great War ghoul and a movie star is great. Seeing him transform from a loving father and family man to a merciless bounty hunter who hunts targets for the thrill of it is great. He isn't some assassin with a heart of gold, and the centuries weigh on him in the worst way. He has become a monster, and tries to make Lucy become a monster like him.
This fails because Lucy refuses to throw away her principles, and she desperately clings to them instead. Which begins to change The Ghoul. Who is saved from going feral by her. After he sells her to organ harvesters for drugs. Lucy escapes, and ends up saving The Ghoul before he loses it.
The Ghoul is so fucking cool too. It's not like Cad Bane, who is a try hard power fantasy for nerds who think Jedi and Sith are lame, and instead an actually well written bounty hunter. Who has seen every horror the wasteland has to offer, and will do anything to survive.
I hate this show because some parts of it are really, really good but the rest is garbo. I want to like it, but I can't at the same time. It's a mixed bag that will hand you freshly baked apple pie, and then shoot you in the foot right as you are about to take a bite.
That was meant to be a goddamned joke and they already did the fucking joke before I made it...
I was expecting all of this the more I heard of this shit. All the "FIRST EPISODE SLAPS THIS IS TOTALLY GOOD GUYS" Sounded like the same shit I heard whenever any new franchise in this day an age gets new shows and movies and they start off looking good only to go to shit fast. Happened with He-Man, Happened with TLOU, happened with the MCU after Endgame, and the one that comes to mind the most, is Star Wars.
In fact the way the NCR and BOS is treated reeks of the same stupid shit writing and World building for the Sequels. Just like the NCR, the New Republic was a long time faction in the fandom people were excited to see because they found them interesting as a "good guy" faction with flaws and both inner and outer conflicts that made them compelling and when woke writers got a hold of them they immediately have them wiped out like chumps who accomplish nothing and the whole setting does not give a fuck as if such a large and powerful faction getting taken out would not lead to huge ramifications for the entire setting.
And then onto the BOS who were not a full on "bad guy" faction like the Empire, they were originally more neutral before Todd got his hands on them and made them plain bread boring ass good guys, while NV tried to present them as a flawed and outdated group of quasi-religious fanatics obsessed with hording tech that resulted in them falling down to a shadow of their former self, to Todd once again wanking his version of them to suddenly revert that without any thought to now them just being the Fallout equivalent of the First Order in that they are a one dimensional bad guy faction who are portrayed as the dominate force that took out the NCR but is still somehow full of idiots and cowards who by all reason make zero sense to have done so. And the Enclave still being around as a major force, which was dumb AF when Fallout 3 did it, is the other half of the equivalent to the First Order who are also just the Empire coming back alive for no goddamn reason and outlasting a proper and more functional government like the NCR.
I hate being right with this shit.
