OBD Convo #52: Stop Being Weak! Weak! Weak!

Like legit real shit, JJK's Female Cast is some of the worst I've seen... but that's only because Gege doesn't even know how to do Character Interaction or worse, he doesn't WANT to do Character Interaction.

I have not seen an author so afraid to do that since Shinjuku as characters rarely interact past fights and nothing else. Even Yuta going to Yuji had to have a fight in it because.
Maki becomes Toji 2.0 and the only other interaction she gets is "Don't be done because your sister is dead" but she never even remotely acts like she did in the past. Yuki is literally Star and Stripe 2.0, Nobara literally vanishes for 4 years and comes back to save the characters' ass in the last 5 chapters(peak am I right?) and most of the other females don't even exist after that.

Between them and MHA fans, Modern Shonen standards has fucking driven into the fucking dirt for real. DBZ Females have done far more than any JJK and MHA females... and I do mean just Bulma :risigif
 
Eh, I really don’t like using Kubo. For one thing, I find both Nobara and Maki more compelling than any Bleach girls.

Two, let’s not kid ourselves. Kubo doesn’t have a great track record. Yoruichi’s “power up” and how Kisuke can make her go into it against her will no less were very sus

Bambietta’s fate of being made into a sex slave to a deranged tranny who never gets any comeuppance for it and the whole thing treated as karmic and even humorous was disgusting

And I don’t even want to talk about how badly Unohana, one of the OG Captains, got wasted as just a Zenkai boost for Kenpachi and literally killed off for it

Kubo made up for it with other characters like Rukia, Nelliel, Yoruichi etc. Add in the filler characters and you get other gems like Yoshino and Nozomi.

At least Chizuru was consistently beat up by Tatsuki (who should have been part of the main cast damn it, I will die on that hill) so she always got her just rewards. Unohana shit was just bad though.

Nobara is more compelling? Maki is more compelling? On what planet and universe is that because as far as I remember, neither are all that compelling at all outside of the fact they fight good.

... You mean the form Kisuke had to force Yourichi in and that she despised yet still ultimately helped deal with Askin a good bit? That's somehow supposed to destroy Kubo's track record? So Maki literally losing almost all of her character development somehow doesn't ruin Gege's? Nobara literally appearing at the last second despite plenty of times(including at his expo) saying she was dead doesn't ruin his track record?

A horrific fate happening to her because of her scumbag teammate gets off on that shit while pretending to be a girl? That's... that's the point.
We aren't meant to see that as a good end to Bambietta, the fuck you mean? Even in CFYOW, it's meant to elicit pity especially knowing her true personality.

... So not that different from Yuki? From Rika? From Mai? The latter literally did that exact same fucking thing so Maki can become Toji 2.0 and basically ruined her character.

I'm just messing when it comes to Chizuru though and I do still hate the Unohana shit despite loving the reveal, the fact that both facets of her aren't fake and her just being a decimation machine.

Definitely feel sorry for her, that’s for sure. It’s pretty hard ever justify rape. Hence why I find it disgusting it both still continued on in the novels and Giselle gets no comeuppance for it

Literally like Boruto showing Orochimaru after all the mass murders and human experimentation not only getting off Scott free but allowed to continue doing it.

Gotta say I REALLY hated even the fact she just ended up being "female Kenpachi" pretty much. Even if I didn't think Zaraki was one note and boring, that would have been lame to have her basically just be a smarter version of the same character.

Could have done ANYTHING else with her but that. At least Soi Fon was MEANT to seem like a lesser version of Yoruichi because she was meant to be in her shadow, the problem there being that she never really got out of it.

And Mayuri exists... as well as Kenpachi... and basically alot of the Sternritters who helped to nearly end all of current existence. Bleach is a fucked up universe... which is kinda the point. Orochimaru's bullshit never made any sense and shouldn't be used as a comparison as atleast Aizen is staying in jail.

Yeah... ONCE. You can't pretend that shields Gege when the man took direct inspiration and turned a potential character into just his fetish(Toji) but female which is legit worse than Unohana and Kenpachi Zaraki.
I ain't going into "Whataboutism", Adamant and Blade knows I hate that moment far more than others because I actually like Unohana and still do unironically. The explanations are there but they are still just explanations, which is the same shit for Maki and Mai, fuck the fact that it's not just JJK and Bleach.
 
Only point I agree with you on is Mayuri. Never liked that guy and always thought it was messed up how a traitor to his own subordinates gets both his cruelty downplayed and he himself treated as one of the good guys just an arc later after Soul Society
 
Honestly the only thing better about Kubo's women are appearance. Id read a whole manga of Maki just being Toji 2.0 and it'd still be more entertaining and compelling than any spinoff Kubo could muster with any of his :shrug
 
I rank Kishi worse. At least Gege and Kubo can regularly have their females do something

Take Revy and Balalakai a million times over than Toji 2.0.

She’s even a Tsundere done right, in that she’s actually endearing and not overbearing about it

I heavily disagree with that on the bases that characters like Bulma, the Sailor Senshi and other very well written Female Shonen characters exists.

If you want to be frank, it's literally a case by case basis and more or less how you compare it to other writers and media as a whole. Hermione is a good female character but she had focus to get up there... her movie counterpart is two packs off ass and it's amazing people think that's a better written character when she basically cripples Ron by existing.
