OBD Convo #57: Even through the most dif days, this light of justice still burns

Never is hard critical on people at first glance, so you can take what he says with some pinches of salt at times.
Yeah I can see that, though most of his criticism isn't entirely unjustified, just much harsher than I would tend to be.

For example I can see why he finds Lyra Valkyria to be boring from a character perspective. I just look at it more from a perspective of she's pretty fucking young and has enough time to come up with a character later. Hell I would say that it's right there in the "thinks she's The Morrigan" thing, I would just suggest to play into that a lot more.

As for Thunder Rosa, I don't know what went wrong in her title reign so I can't say if it was genuinely her fault or just the booking but if it was that bad, I can see why he doesn't like her. I'm just basing her on what I've seen and what I've seen is fine and she seems to still be over (which is the only reason I think she even gets TV time at this point) so I wouldn't mind seeing her in WWE.

At least he's not the AEW-stans where the mere fact that Harley Cameron is not absolutely amazing in the ring (she's not terrible by any means, just not great 'cause she's still learning), justified her not beating Mercedes at Grand Slam Austrailia despite being one of the most over women in the company lately.

Again, I actually understand it too but like you said, he tends to be way too harsh and I'm just sitting there and being like "What shows we watching"?
Like real shit, Solo Sikoa has improved greatly on the mic and it's only a matter of time till he actually starts getting himself in the groove of wrestling with the main issue being that Jacob Fatu basically overtook the shit out of him because he was just that much better... the problem is that people have completely ignored Solo's entire history including NXT and even his stint in the Bloodline itself to act like he was always shit when that was not true. Solo's problem was that the fact that his aura was damaged due to basically taking too long to pull the trigger on him in earnest and thus having to soak up losses for Roman.
Carmello Hayes isn't bad either, dude has gotten legit clean wins but his issue is the exact same problem that LA Knight has in that they are stuck in the Midcard when they should be in the ME Sector already(Which is worse because they then moved Main Eventers like Drew MacIntyre and Damien Priest to Smackdown when they didn't need to be moved there).

Alot of the current issues with the men and women of WWE is more not really getting that chance to shine because... there is literally too many people in the right spots and thus are in places where they shouldn't be and the fact that it's extremely obvious Triple H doesn't want to diminish the belts' integrity meaning Champions will tend to have them for far longer than necessary despite it would take awhile of massive hopscotching for that to happen(That and the World Championship, for instance, was not held off well by Seth Rollins when anyone would have been a better choice)

Solo Sikoa is by far the most improved superstar of 2024, especially from a mic perspective. The False Tribal Chief run really did wonders for him in that regard where yes, the issue was simply that Jacob Fatu is SO GOOD that Solo just wasn't believable being the head of the group.

I do like that they're now playing into that in the build to their wrestlemania match with Solo playing more the role of a manipulator trying to stay on Jacob Fatu's good side because he no longer has full and unquestioned control of him any more. Again the only real issue is that NO ONE is going to believe Solo has a chance of winning, but Solo will still get the job that he's being asked to get done. Which is to get Jacob more over than he already is.

LA Knight I agree should be in the main event already and has gotten shoved out of it by Drew and Damien.

I think Carmelo Hayes being in the mid-card makes sense, I think he does need to be built up to the main event . The issue is that we're not really doing that at the moment. I can only ASSUME this tag team with The Miz is going to be an attempt to build him up by having him work with a more established star (ala Bianca and Jade) before moving him on to the main event scene.

The Men's Tag Team Division is funny enough the hottest non-main event division on Smackdown right now so it's not even a bad idea. Though they might get overshadowed as a heel tag team by the Street Profits who are doing good shit right now and DIY. Only time will tell.
This is largely why I believe we've been getting so many releases lately, they needed to "trim the fat" as it were. The problem being most of them weren't being used anyway.

Right now the biggest problem is the mid-card for both men and women needs a lot of work when it comes to variety and storylines and the Women's Tag Team Division has ZERO hope until Bianca and Naomi lose those belts. Men's Tag Team division on all shows are turning things around and NXT needs more men in the main event which I'm sure is a problem Ricky Starks/Saints will help address

I am judgmental.

It was just really bad. No real stories (mostly Tony's fault) but her matches were subpar and she was sandbagging people.

ike real shit, Solo Sikoa has improved greatly on the mic and it's only a matter of time till he actually starts getting himself in the groove of wrestling with the main issue being that Jacob Fatu basically overtook the shit out of him because he was just that much better... the problem is that people have completely ignored Solo's entire history including NXT and even his stint in the Bloodline itself to act like he was always shit when that was not true. The thing is, I'm not saying Solo's bad. He's just not good enough to be having all these main events like he's had. He's not a massive star right now. Cody was right that he isn't ready. If you push anyone in the new bloodline, you push Jacob. He's the star there. Give me Jacob vs. Bron and I'll have a match I'm really looking forward to for WrestleMania.

Carmelo isn't bad. It's just I don't see him as a standout, certainly not in the main event. LA Knight is a real talent and should be featured a lot more prominently.

So apparently on the press conference after Smackdown, The Rock laid out one of the main points of this storyline with Cody is that "it doesn't necessarily HAVE to end in a match" so it's very likely that no match is on the table, at least not for THIS Wrestlemania.

As I've said, I don't think this Wrestlemania NEEDS a Rock match. In fact just having him as a heel authority figure trying to find and/or backing his corporate champion would still be a large boost to this Wrestlemania.

Still feel like it should be Cody vs Punk, especially if Cody actually sells out because Punk is the ultimate anti-authority guy and has already lost title reigns, main event and even Wrestlemania main event slots to The Rock before. I just don't feel like there's as much to work with for Cena vs Cody.

I also have a sinking feeling that this could be a WrestleMania 27 situation, even though "I want your soul" was pretty climactic. Cody vs. Punk is the best possible match out of that chamber combination, and Cody selling his soul to keep the title could make sense.

Rock feels like he's having a Jon Jones moment but there will be a match eventually.

Got my John Constantine fit ready.

Tony Khan, let me be clear on this. If ANY match on the Revolution card to end a rivalry deserves some kind of violent stipulation, it is THIS ONE!

I don't give a fuck about Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher, steel cage or no, Toni and Mariah have carried this entire damn company for the better part of a year, they've both talked about doing brutal things to each other and they've brawled all over arenas. This feud has EARNED a violent hardcore send-off. You could have it be Hollywood themed to go with the theatrics both women have done, but it needs to happen.

Frankly they deserve the main event at this point but I'll take what I can get.
Speaking of women who deserve something for the work they're putting in.

PUT THAT FUCKING TBS BELT ON THIS WOMAN FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! 🙏

I don't give two shits if she's never gonna put on a 5 star match, JUST LISTEN to that! She has the crowd eating out of the palm of her hand. I don't care if you take a month or two, give her some more wins and big wins to build her up to it, but you HAVE to capitalize on this Tony. You have a star in the making right here, strike while the iron is hot.

Now I'm glad to see she's getting a match on Dynamite next week and, to quote Raiden from Mortal Kombat "She MUST win".
Keep her momentum going and GIVE her the upset win on Mercedes and I guarantee you that the roof will blow off the place.

FEEL THE WRATH!

I’ve no idea WTF their smoking with Kratos unless it’s some stereotyping joke about Spartan soldiers being gay that got old since Meet the Spartans

:hestonpls

But let’s talk about the other 2:

Last of Us pissed away all its good will with the second game which underperformed. Fans preferred the first game about the toxic, straight white male who was actually well-written as well as the Ellie of that game whose sexuality was basically an afterthought instead

Horizon is a franchise Sony tries really hard to make bigger than it really is. And even for the fandom itself, the fans mostly talk about the interesting lore, the combat, and machines more than anything with surprising little to say of the main character Aloy themselves

And it’s no surprise why. Even before the second game made her a carpet muncher as a substitute for writing her with any actual personality, she was one of the blandest protagonists you could ever play as in a video game

Horizon is a franchise that will be forgotten within this decade and Aloy isn’t the kind of character you’ll see still being talked about among gamers years later like Solid Snake, Lara Croft, Nathan Drake, Marcus, Master Chief, Ezio, Jak and Daxter, Dante, John Marston, etc
