One Piece Tier/Feat/Canon/Toei Discussion Thread Part 3: Road to star level

Yes, it had to, earlier.

I would have preferred if he ripped the band-aid off earlier, but we were going to have to deal with it sooner or later.

I'm assuming Oda delayed this fight so long because Fukurokuju's defeat will tie into the downfall of Orochi, who is one of the major villains of this arc, and has more narrative weight in the plot than any of Kaido subordinates.

I don't think it's crucial enough to take an entire chapter at this point in time. It would have made no sense for that build-up to entirely shift to Fuku vs Raizo. Kaido vs Luffy is the climax of this arc, and King's defeat is the final step in the build-up towards it.

That being said, from what I've heard it's going to be a brief battle and we'll get some of the main action. So, it makes a whole lot more sense now.

I disagree a bit.

Wano opening up is a huge narrative goal for the series and has ties to the Void Century. I think Raizou and Fuku are a representation of that and deserves more focus than that. Also Zoro vs. King was never going to be the second main fight. Law and Kidd vs. Mom seems to be the main fight after Luffy vs. Kaidou.

Hell even in this chapter coming out the CP0 is hyping Law Kidd, Luffy. Saying these fights will determine the outcome of the World.

One Piece anime been killing it.

The scene where Kine'mon, Inuarashi, Ashura, and Denjuro using Ryou Haki and Paradise Tostuka was fucking phenomenal.

Honestly I know people don't want to hear it. But I can see the Scabbards having a second go round this time.

It is, but Raizo vs Fuku isn't going to have as grave consequences as the other battles, It's not what people's been waiting for. Orochi is on his last legs as is. It's symbolic, sure. But at this point in time, considering where the story's at, I don't think it deserves major focus.

This doesn't contradict what I was saying. King vs Zoro is the final major build-up battle to the climax. I have my doubts about Law and Kid vs Big Mom actually reaching a proper conclusion. I have a hard time believing it will end with Big Mom's defeat, but that said, the way things are going it's hard to tell.

Sure, BM vs Law and Kid is very significant, potentially just as much(assuming it actuallly reaches a proper conclusion), but It's not the main event. Luffy vs Kaido is. As you said - Wano opening up is a huge narrative goal. It's going to open the door to the core of the story. The main plot. Luffy defeating Kaido is going to be what smashes through that door.

Sanji's eyebrows are back to normal.

Those anti-canon Shanks movie bros fuming right now.

Sanji's eyebrows probably turn when he's in an intense emotional state.

"Hurr durr One Piece is so slow to get going, look what Naruto was doing as early as chapter 66, bla bla bla."

Yeah the answer to that is blowing its wad too early by putting out its BEST ARC BY FAR as its second arc, just like Bleach did. Care to remind me what happened to both series shortly afterwards? That's right they both tried and failed to make lightning strike twice, couldn't match the quality of their earlier arcs and died a slow and horrific death.

Meanwhile One Piece took its time to lay the ground work for what comes later, delivered ONE OF its best arcs early on in Arlong Park, has several arcs that are a match for anything in either of its competitors and kept up a much more consistent level of quality overall. To the point where even after it's supposed drop in quality (the time-skip) you're still getting arcs that people can make cases for being among the best in the series.

I appreciate if someone doesn't like a slow burn but don't say shit like "I can't imagine how it even has fans, in an alternate universe i would have had it cancelled" Just because YOU don't get the appeal.

Also because you are reading it all in one go. You will probably not see any decline in OP tbh @Adamant soul
It seems that way, just based on Totally Not Mark's reviews and how he only seemed to praise it more as he went on. It very much seems to be a series that works better reading in bulk as opposed to reading week to week.

The same type of thing was probably a factor in my enjoying the Yakuza arc of MHA, because I got to read it all in one shot as opposed to waiting week to week for updates.

Too bad that's not really an option for Ghost Reaper Girl right now. Hell I've had to wait the better part of two months for a single chapter on the 27th. Though I mark it a good sign that I'm still excited for it, still eagerly awaiting it.

Unlike with Rosario towards the end where I would often forget about and be surprised when chapters came out because the last arc started to drag. Or with Claymore's last arc where the wait was insufferable (in combination with the fact I found Priscilla boring) and I ended up dropping it completely.
