To Aru Majutsu No Index Feats/Discussion/Analysis Thread - One Othinus To Rule Them All

I see. The reason why I ask is because of those Bible spells Aleister pulled off against Mathers.

Those would count as human magic, wouldn't they? Fiamma would be incapable of them.

God’s Right Seat doesn’t simply use magic derived from the Bible

They align themselves with one of the 4 Archangels and they become essentially pseudo-angels while acquiring the magic of said Angel their aligned with

Man, there's so much untapped potential in the world of Toaru, I feel. I mean, Acqua being both this and a literal saint, just imagine the kind of lore we could get into if Kamachi explored more of the magical and religious aspects of the world, outside of things that directly involved Touma.

Pretty much.

As much as a I love all the spin-offs besides Accelerator, Kamachi really needs to expand on more of the setting beyond Academy City

Also FYI

I actually thought the first Accelerator arc wasn’t half bad. If just for Esther and Scavenger carrying it

It’s the second half right before it got canned that shit the bed for me with the nonsensical plot about cooking and not a single new character introduced that I liked

Other than Accel and Yomikawa’s great interactions and that fight between the Tobio sisters, not a single other I thing I even enjoyed reading in what was easily one of the worst arcs in the whole franchise

Even the damn art saw a dip in quality with everything looking more rough and sketchy, the author no longer drawing noses for several characters, and Accelerator now looking like Gollum

All the stuff that was likely supposed to be announced in 2024 for the series 20 year anniversary getting dumped all at once now

Think I’m most excited for the ITEM spin-off just because it’s an all new project and it will be interesting to see how it is they do the adaptation

Something tells me the art will be different from Index/Railgun like it was with Accelerator to better match strelka’s art

Anyone else think ITEM was made because Kamachi felt he kinda wasted Mugino for both Index and Railgun where she really should have had larger roles because he wrote himself into a corner with her for both?

On the Railgun side, she’s been pretty much usurped by Shokuhou as Misaka’s main rival for starters which I will always find disappointing. To this day, I still consider this one of the biggest wastes in the series. Mugino was practically made to be a recurring rival to Misaka.

And even on the Index side where she will inevitably be involved in Hamazura related arcs, besides Takitsubo having a firm hold on Hamazura when it comes to relationships, it’s pretty hard to write scenarios where Hamazura is in some dangerous situation that Mugino wouldn’t easily dispatch for him if she’s always with him, leaving him with little relevance hence why she’s rarely involved in New Testament stuff

So there’s pretty much nothing else for her other than to write stories about her and ITEM doing past Dark Side stuff

Same deal with Frenda.

Railgun shows she’s a surprisingly fun character to write and do fight scenes with

But not much you can do for a character that dies midway of the first series in the same volume she’s introduced in and Railgun now officially taking place after her death too

Glad spin-offs are so abundant in this franchise to keep characters like Mugino and Frenda from being completely wasted

You know a fight went hard when Touma and one of the Level 5s had to team up

Well this video in particular aged bad

Saw stuff like this for the past 4 years in any online community like Reddit too and I never understood all the Doom and Gloom since Railgun T finished

Genesis Testament, the third major series, still ongoing. That along with the Index manga, Railgun and Mental Out all releasing on a consistent schedule and Kamachi now giving us Toaru Anbu No Item as yet another in the long list of spin-offs in this franchise

Like, there’s plenty of content to go around and enjoy even if no anime adaptation was announced. Does a crappy anime adaptation of NT really make all the difference here?

It got especially bad when Imaginary Fest was announced to be ending. Yeah it was fun to watch and see characters we’d likely never see animated but my Gosh, the amount of Western fans treating a gacha game that wasn’t even available to them getting shelved as the equivalent of the franchise itself being cancelled was ridiculous

I love this fandom, but man the amount of entitled brats you see being like this gets grating after a while

If there was anything I had to complain about, it’s that I do wish the Index manga moved to at least a bi-weekly schedule because of how ridiculously behind it is to the source material

Than again, perhaps it could have also just been the general mood the entire world was in these past 4 years

I mean, we just went through one of the worst modern day lockdowns and violation of our freedoms by the government using Covid-19 as an excuse for both

Even now for the West, only America is just now getting out of this funk.

Brittney Karbowski, Misaka’s English Voice actress is aware

Does a great job voicing the character and one of the few people at Funimation I like, having even met them at a convention once

Wonder if Mugino’s actress, Lydia Mackey knows. From what I’ve seen, she’s never had a main character role before. Biggest character she’s ever voiced was probably Ultear from Fairy Tail

strelka too whose the artist for the manga version

Between them and Niritsu who did the art for the novel, kinda hoping they animate based on strelka’s art cuz reasons

Biggest gripe I have with Niritsu’s style is how young they make Mugino look, a teenager who even in Kiyotaka Haimura’s style, is drawn looking more mature than even some of the adults

Feel like her getting cutend up loses some of the impact

Mugino in strelka’s art has more of an aura if you ask me.

Sorry Mugino, but Misaka kicks her ass any day

Those bombs didn’t provide Misaka with any advantage she wouldn’t have already havent if her powers had been working properly at the time besides being easily accessible pick ups for her Magnetism

Losing to Misaka twice in a row who was injured from just fighting Frenda and running on literal fumes while at full strength and with back up from the rest of her team minus Kinuhata shows their Ranks among the 7 Level 5s is very much justified

Yet another reason I loved the Jailbreaker arc, it gives us baddies that actually gave Misaka trouble.

Kimi Shundan, the first real antagonist that could actually fight Misaka on even terms and win

And before her, Raifu did good against Misaka for a subordinate and got some good hits on her with just a little deception and creative use of her powers and her surroundings. Not bad at all for a Level 4

Before them, Mugino was the only other opponent in Railgun that ever gave Misaka any real opposition

Kiyama Harumi, AIM Burst, Therestina, Frenda, Doppelgänger

All completely outmatched. It’s not as bad as with Accelerator, but the Railgun mangaka had a hard time presenting genuine threats against a Level 5 that weren’t another Level 5 too

Probably helped in the decision to make Misaka herself the antagonist for the Daihaseisai arc when she got corrupted and made into a pseudo-Level 6 to raise the stakes
