You don't know what gaslighting means. It absolutely makes sense for town as a means to nerf the role, Fuji loves making it hard for scum to lose role power because the game will be designed with the intention of scum being able to do a lot. This is par for the course for these games. Makes way more sense that Fuji creating a duel ability that's designed to bus.

It's not about punishing town. The scum player loses their role, they're given as one shots, so that their role isn't completely lost. It's not great, but if you assume this game is based on its role power more than anything else, it makes sense that Fuji wouldn't want it to be too easy for the town to be able to take out a scum role with what serves as a bonus kill. So scum lose the player, the number, and only gets a version of the role as one shots which is going ti be weaker than the actual role. He does this all the time lol, there have been several scum roles that can dig one shot versions of dead scum mate roles, which is also a more roundabout way of what this is (punishing town for providing a dead scum to be dug).
The cult leader part is fine and you've just argued against your own position as a result. The town would need to know that the cult can still Cult, yes absolutely.
