The Lost Hero opens with Jason, Piper, and Leo wrecking the Grand Canyon Skywalk in true demigod fashion. After driving off a few monsters, Annabeth and Butch arrive to bring them to Camp Half-Blood.

They rose over the Grand Canyon and headed east, icy wind ripping straight through Piper's jacket.

Cue internal relationship monologue from Piper. However, this runs through her mind at the same time that the following conversation goes down.

Meanwhile, Leo was being annoying, as usual. "This is so cool!" He spit a pegasus feather out of his mouth. "Where are we going?"

"A safe place," Annabeth said. "The only safe place for kids like us. Camp Half-Blood."

"Half-Blood?" Piper was immediately on guard. She hated that word. She'd been called a half-blood too many times--half Cherokee, half white--and it was never a compliment. "Is that some kind of bad joke?"

"She means we're demigods," Jason said. "Half god, half mortal."

Annabeth looked back. "You seem to know a lot, Jason. But, yes, demigods. My mom is Athena, goddess of wisdom. Butch here is a son of Iris, the rainbow goddess."

Leo choked. "Your mom is a rainbow goddess?"

"Got a problem with that?" Butch said.

"No, no," Leo said. "Rainbows. Very macho."

"Butch is our best equestrian," Annabeth said. "He gets along great with the pegasi."

"Rainbows, ponies," Leo muttered.

"I'm gonna toss you off this chariot," Butch warned.

"Demigods," Piper said. You mean you think you're...you think we're--"

Lightning flashed. The chariot shuddered, and Jason yelled, "Left wheel's on fire!"

Piper stepped back. Sure enough, the wheel was burning, white flames lapping up the side of the chariot.

The wind roared. Riper glanced behind them and saw dark shapes forming in the clouds, more storm spirits spiraling toward the chariot--except these looked more like horses than angels.

She started to say, "What are they--"

"Anemoi come in different shapes," Annabeth said. "Sometimes human, sometimes stallions, depending on how chaotic they are. Hold on. This is going to get rough."

Butch flicked the reigns. The pegasi put on a burst of speed, and the chariot blurred. Piper's stomach crawled into her throat. Her vision went black, and when it came back to normal, they were in a totally different place.

In that last paragraph, Piper didn't black out; she simply couldn't see temporarily. This couldn't have lasted a more than a few seconds, or she'd have freaked out.

As for the entire conversation, it lasts for pretty much from their departure to their arrival at "a totally different place", which happens to be Camp Half-Blood. This couldn't have lasted more than a few minutes.

I ran through this conversation with my friend without telling him what it was for to ensure that it would sound natural. It never took more than 2 minutes, so I'll use 3 minutes to account for Piper's loss of eyesight and to consider a low-end.

Camp Half-Blood is in the Long Island sound.

Using this site, I get the distance from the Grand Canyon to Long Island to be 3413.86km.

3413860/(3*60)=18965m/s

or about mach 56.

Any god worth his beans is going to be faster than a pegasus. Percy as a 12-year-old with little training can combat Ares. At 13 he can face Atlas without dying horribly. At 14 he shits on Phobos. Most impressively, however, 15 years has him absolutely wrecking Hades and Hyperion and even combating Kronos. Then, at 16, Percy murders Polybotes, who fights with Poseidon. You probably know where I'm going with this :zaru
